...villain is pretty competent and has about $250 behind, he generally shows up strong and plays a solid albeit straightforward game, he has not bluffed in hours to my knowledge BUT has lost several largish pots lately and seems potentially steamed

...hero is looking TAG no doubt having been playing very few hands but coming in with strong preflop aggression when playing $450 behind

V makes it $12 pre from mid position, folded around to me on button, i dont want to lose him but having been making the majority of my preflop raises from button and cutoff i feel i can go a tad larger...i opt to go 35$ though which is about what i would do here anyways with no other callers behind him. folded back around and he flats. flop is J8J 2 diamonds and he very quickly shoves all in into me...i think there could be some jacks in his range as well as pp 88...i think its a pretty amazing move if he has it or not as it puts me in a really weird spot...i have to tank awhile and try to talk up some info (some d-bag says hes going to call clock after relatively little time ) ...i ask him how he knows i dont have a jack, he says because theres not 5 in the deck ect...he is really coming off as extremely confident and relaxed here and i pride myself on reading people in live games, once again i think this would be an amazing line choice from him if he put me on a big hand and he really had the jack or pp88 but at the same time i dont think i can give this particular V that much credit for something so intentionally deceptive. im really flipflopping as his confidence troubles me, however after watching him awhile he does a small (i believe subconsciously) insecure tell that seems at odds with his other behavior...what to do here? the table seemed to think it was an insta-snap spot but im really not so sure against a V who hasnt shown this kind of agro/spewiness for hours...

While most "ABC players" would slow-play a J there, if he's pretty solid he could do that as a level knowing that you're range has a lot of overpairs. I guess the speech and the tell cancel out. He could def have KK or QQ here (maybe even TT) and be shoving a safe flop. He could even have flopped a FD and be semi-bluffing.

Bottom line: Paired board and SPR under 4 with an overpair, I'm never folding.

Calling. You have blockers against AJ and there are likely no other Js in his range. 88 is a possibility but QQ and KK and AK of diamonds seem more likely if you don't hold the A of diamonds

If he's actually on tilt/stuck, I'd guess that there's more jacks in his range than just AJ - probably all suited broadways that include a J - but in game I am probably always convincing myself that he doesn't bet a big hand this way and call. Interested to see the results.

Jx and 88 are very different here, because Jx wants to 'protect against the flush draw' and could perhaps take that weird line whereas you can discount 88 because a villain who flopped a boat would never over-bet open ship it imo.

Not many jacks in his range, some flush draws with overs, maybe some combo draws, lower overpairs. Gotta cawl.
