They do have a very similar "German-speaking Spielbank" look, but these are actually from Spielbank Bad Durkheim in Germany, the source of about half of my bankroll.

How do you manage to play much smaller stakes online than live?

I do the same and sometimes find it quite hard to care about the stakes when they are so much smaller (for me its 2/5 live and NL/PLO 50 to 100 online)

With a good winrate and multitabling you can make just as much if not more than at 2/5.

I know, the hourly rate is not my issue. I just find it hard to care for individual pots or bets at .25/.50 for instance, especially after i had big swings at 2/5.

I have to be very careful, i sometimes catch myself spewing quite a bit as a result.

I think another reason is that my bankroll is much bigger online than live in terms of buy-ins. Online i like to play HU PLO and have around 100 buy-ins on average. Live i feel like 20 or 30 could be enough and i don't even keep that much since i can replenish it if i need to (i do keep track of results though).

fwiw, i'm a recreational player, i play more for the enjoyment than for the money. i make more at work than the 25 i used to make at 2/5 and that i suspect i don't make anymore (made a one-year break from poker and it seems to be tougher now).

I have the same problem, which is why I didn't play cash tables online much before Black Friday. I never had that issue in SnGs, since they appealed so much to the competitor in me. My ego was finally pushing me into caring by saying "you think you're a good player, but you can't muster the discipline to beat the online micros?" Just as I was working on playing uNL with the same seriousness that I put into other poker, Black Friday hit.

So I presume the secret is making it a goal not of money, but of proving your skill. But I haven't had the opportunity to prove the theory yet.

I think this is pretty close to the answer. We've all heard that you can't care about the money when you're at the table - that it's just a tool to get the job done, that you'll definitely play sub-optimally if you're afraid to lose your stack.

Well, the opposite is true also. If you look at your 100BB as "only $10, who gives a flip?" then you'll also play sub-optimally. Focus on making the best poker play, every time.

Getting stacked because you played a hand poorly should piss you off.

Birthday bump. As my gift to the forum (and my ego, tbh), I practice thread necromancy and re-open to questions. Questions will be answered after work, as my birthday, for some odd reason, is not a holiday.

If your birthday was a national/international holiday, how would you like people to celebrate it / honour it / traditions / etc.?

From one CRC(ish) (RES) O to another:

What are your thoughts on children? It seems you have never had any desire to have them [or adopt] ?

Assuming you continue to get promoted in time, would you choose to defer retirement indefinitely [until kicked out for age] ? Have you considered joining an agency or security contractor with your language skill and bg? Also, assuming Major now?

What martial-art(s) have you done/do you do?

Do you wear your own jewelry at the table?

Happy Birthday.

Happy birthday.

Time you felt the worst in your life?

What is the dumbest thing you've done?

When and why is the last time you've cried?

Do you think you'll be playing some sort of poker the rest of your life?

Happy Birthday! Great read!

1. Did your military training, physical and mental help you in Poker and life in general? Why or Why not?

2. How do you stay positive/focused through tough times?

I like all portions of the female form, but I am more impressed with the cleavage than the crack. Don't like the giant swingers or the oddly shaped enhancements.

1. Not so much the physical. TBH, physical training in the Air Force is kind of a joke if you are already athletic, but the mental hugely. From the silly attention to detail stuff in basic (socks stacked in size order) to the demands of staying sharp and covering multiple streams of information during a 15 hour mission, this stuff is pure gold for the poker table.

2. Don't really stay positive, but get super focused, determined and disciplined/stubborn. Basically, I refuse to lose and plow through until I "win." This stands me in good stead in life, but can actually be a leak at the poker table, as I'm not good at calling it a day when I'm down. Leads to some sessions that are way too long and not much fun, which is kind of a dumb thing to do as a rec player, even if I do control the tilt.

I tend to feel much worse when I'm anticipating something bad than when it's actually happening. Had to fire someone recently, who was a nice guy with serious life/money leaks, and has kids, one of them disabled. From the time we decided we had to do it to when we informed him was just awful, gut-churning misery. Actually letting him go sucked, but nowhere near as much as the anticipation.

Getting married at 19 to a girl I knew for like 3 weeks before we got engaged, less than a year before we got married. ainec.

I ruptured my spleen doing martial arts a few month ago. Hurt like F, but I didn't want to go to the emergency room, get hospitalized, and not be able to fight in the big tournament the next week. After about 20 hours I realized I was being a macho idiot and went to E-room. They did CAT-scan and confirmed splenal rupture. I was still OK at that point, but when they told me that they were admitting me to the hospital for NLT 24 hours, I felt like crying. Held it in until the docs and nurses left, but did cry a bit in the hospital room. Felt like being in prison...

Probably, as long as I can still find opponents, and I don't think the game will die that much.

I don't have the patience for children. I was basically Calvin (of "and Hobbes" fame) as a child, and I think that would drive me crazy. Plus I move around a lot and live a busy lifestyle. Kids just don't fit into that. I have two nephews and they are great, but I can't imagine having kids full time.

Yes, I am currently a Major meeting my 2-BPZ Lt Col board. I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up, so not ready to retire. Probably not interested in staying long enough to make full Colonel, though. If I get a squadron command, I will likely retire immediately thereafter, as that seems like a great note to go out on.

I don't plan to retire and come back to work the next day in a suit instead of a uniform. Once I retire, I plan to be done with intel. I have received a lot of offers, but that just seems like such a grind.

I have done Gōjū-ryū Karte, and a bit of Shotokan, but that was all many years ago. Now (and for the last 25 years) I do Western Martial Arts, primarily armored combat. I do a lot of sword-and-shield and sword-and-buckler, and a fair amount of great-sword. I know this sounds like the live-action role-playing kids throwing beanbags and yelling "fireball" to most of you, but it's a highly developed, full-speed full contact martial art. Here's a clip of a steel fight featuring one of the guys who trained me. I mostly don't do steel, though, as it's so dangerous. We usually use wooden weapons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYzuMybEUkc

Just my wedding ring, which I made in the style of a stirrup ring. I'm not much of a jewelry wearer. I mostly make it to give away.

Thanks for the Birthday well-wishes, all. I'ma go hoist a cold-one from the new micro-brewery in town in celebration.

My sister, who used to do Kenpo, said she wanted to marry Calvin. Just sayin...
