Hey folks

I'm looking for some advice in regards to playing live poker and traveling. I'll start off my giving my poker background, and my ideas in regards to traveling and playing poker.

About me

First off, I'm 21 year old Canadian and will be finishing my undergrad degree in December. I have been playing poker online on and off for about 4 years. I have played mostly low-medium stakes MTT and have profited ~$15k averaging 5-10hrs/wk over the past 4 years. I was a break-even player for at least a year.

I have some experience live, and I have been playing at my local casino for the past month. I have been playing 4-6 days a week, and developed a real passion for the game. I have been reading harrington's books on cash games, and I intend on reading more books on the topic following harrington's.

I have profited ~$2,500 at 1/2 over the past month. I was at $3000 after 3 weeks, then to $2,000, and back up to $2,500 after a couple good sessions. I have been playing 30-40hrs/wk. I realize the sample is outrageously small, but it speaks for something.

What I am interested in doing

I am interested in traveling once I have finished my degree in December. I have a particular interest in going through Asia, and surrounding areas. (Thailand, China, New Zealand, Australia). I have enough money to travel for a year+ on my own without supplementary income. However, I love the game of poker, and I would like to play poker 20-40hours a week as a form of income.

Any ideas on how to improve my game? Any suggestions to a live noob? Does anyone have any experience playing cash games while traveling?

Card rooms all look the same on the inside for the most part. Spend your time seeing the countries you go to. They will still be dealing when you get back home.

My advice, travel by bicycle. It is slower and you will meet people that would never meet otherwise.

Between the countries? No. But within them? Absolutely!

I did Scandinavia, meeting lifelong friends along the way. My buddy just got back from A Boston To Pacific ocean trip. A guy I met when I was in Russia was 15 years into a "Bicycle to every country in the world" trip.

So, China, OZ, Australia and Thailand? Yes! It is killer cheap, more fun, and he said he had a year to spend on this. By bicycle, people open up their homes, feed and shelter you. The buddy who went across the country left with like $100, had most of it left when he got back.

I played poker in NZ (Auckland) and Australia (Sydney and Melbourne) and found the games to be lacking.

In NZ there was no action and in Australia the buy in's are maxed out so low and there is an hourly fee to play that seemed to work out to a lot more than a standard rake.

There WAS a lot of action in Melbourne at the Crowne however. That's probably your best bet.
