Villain is late 20s rec player. Probably not a great player but not awful. Closer to passive than aggressive.
Hero opens black aces to 8 from LJ and gets called by CO.
Flop
964 two diamonds.
I bet ten he calls.
Turn jack of hearts.
Pot: 36.
I bet 25 he calls after stacking chips looking like he might raise.
River: Ten of hearts.
Board 964JT. Flush misses.
Pot: 86
I bet 25
He jams for 100
Hero talks to get a read and he says if you can beat two pair you are good.
I think I get to the river playing about 57 combos of hands this way and the only better hands I have are 87 suited JT suited, J9 suited, and all of the sets possible. Folding would be a tad exploitable here but I don't think villain bluffs enough in this spot.
I would bet 2/3 on turn. And check call the river. If you are playing 1/2 spread limit where max bet is 100. Then usually bet of 100 shows more strength than usual. But I would still fold. I like to think I fold all QQ+ hands here and a third of the time call with two pair.
The most exploitable thing is the river bet - it screams weakness.
Folding is not exploitable, calling is. You beat a busted FD and few missed straights..
Villian is more likely to bluff the river, due to your bet sizing if they're a thinking player.
I'm generally folding.
Oh it's absolutely exploitable if I don't balance it, but this guy isn't exploiting me in that way. Vs a good or more aggressive player I check call or check fold not bet.
For what it's worth as villain was leaving I told him I had aces and asked him what he had and he said jack nine for a flopped pair and turned two pair.
Was 8 a normal preflop size? I'd probably bet bigger on flop.
If you don't know what to do on river then don't bet. Turn tell makes me want to check even more. River raises from noncrazy players are almost always nutted hands.
