2/2/3, i have $400, villain a little less. no real reads sat down 10 hands ago, but villain has done anything splashy of note

7 handed

EP limps, i make it $17 BTN (too small?), SB (Villain) calls, limper calls. pot $47.

flop Q23 rainbow, checked to me i bet $40 (too much i think, but oh well), sb calls

turn 3 (no FD), villain checks i bet $90 (should i have checked for pot control?), villain shoves for $225.

first thought was he has a set or slowplayed AA always, but maybe he could have AQ?

also general question, should i be looking to get it in these days with overpairs with SPR 7-8? that question is probably more important than reads here im guessing. certainly would make hands like this easy to play.

Preflop $17 is a sensible size but how good it is depends on table. Flop bet is too big for such a dry board. No reason to go above $25.

7-8 is right in the guesswork zone where reads are important. With SPR < 5 always stack off with an over pair unless the situation is particularly bad. With SPR > 10 you are really bluff catching with one pair but will need to sometimes.

Here you would really like to know what villain does with AQ. could he be over playing a weaker hand, if he can have any bluffs and if he could play AA/QQ this way. As played though I think really have to call. Your slightly too big flop bet has committed you to this pot. $135 more to win $372 is too good of odds.
