What type of opening ranges do you guys use/recommend for live 1/2 dollars?

I feel like i am playing way to nitty and need to open up a little. I find it a little hard raising certain hands in certain spots cos i know i'm gonna be playing the hand multiway OOP.

Any help and advice here would be appreciated.

i think this is pretty table dependent.

i also need to refine my opening ranges (especially with respect to position) so i wouldnt mind some critique here, but this is approximately what they are:

loose-a** table

EP: JJ+, AJ+
LP: JJ+, AJ+, KQ

medium table (standard)

EP: JJ+, AJ+ (edit: KQ also)
LP: TT+, AJ+, ATs, QJs, KQ

i dont often see tables that are actually tight but i'd open up a little bit from the medium table ranges if that were the case. i hate KJ for whatever reason so i'm only raising it at pretty tight tables

On your loose table, I'd open 99 and TT from late position also. And I'd rather open KJ at a loose table as opposed to a tighter table. You'll get a lot of calls from the stations when they have KT or J9 and flop top pair, where-as you're most likely dominated when you're called at the tighter tables.

It is impossible for anyone to give you good advice without first knowing your blind structure. If you are only 30bb deap like in southern california, clearly your hand range would be much tighter than if you had a 100bb stack.

The cliche: It depends.

In general, you want to start opening up on the button only. Play for a while and gradually move out to the CO and add more hands. The key is gradual. I don't know how much you play. If you play 4-5 days a week, you could add hands every couple of weeks. If you play once every weekend, it might be a couple of months before you make any additional changes.

Most people make the mistake of thinking opening up means that they should open up in every position equally.

What are you opening with?
How much are you raising in each position?
How deep are the stacks?
What's the rake structure?
How are the other players playing?
How much cold calling is there?
How often do you get 3 bet/4bet?

EP i am opening with monsters obviously. AQo+. I am limping with small-medium pocket pairs and strong suited aces AJs, KQs.

MP i will limp with hands like KQs, AJ, and i'll overlimp with speculative hands here. I'll raise with big hands again.

LP i am raising with KQ, AT, pocket pairs, QJs, but i'll just overlimp with these hands if lots of limpers which there usually is.

Stack sizes vary greatly. You have ppl buying in for the minimum 20bb's but id say the average buy in size is around 50-60bb's. But as the game progresses some pretty tidy stacks accumulate. Personally i buy in for 120bb's.

The casino take 10% of hands over a certain amount.

I'd describe the games as very very passive. Lots of limping, limp/call, calling down light etc.

If you face a 3bet in this game you are more than likely facing a monster. The lightest 3bets i have seen upto now in 40 odd hour play is Q3s and 99. But i guess there is more light 3bets that havnt been turned over.

I'm pretty sure no one is 4betting unless they have TT+, AK, I am going as low as TT there cos some of these players get it in with pocket pairs. Some even lower than tens.
