It sounds very fun if you're a losing player.

I'd hate to look at all that red.

Lately I've only been playing about once a week. Any information that I could extrapolate by tracking results is completely irrelevant given the lol sample size. If I'm the best player at the table, I know it. If I'm playing the worst at the table, I know that too. I don't need to track results to validate my skills, nor do I need them to tell me if I suck.

Nice to know how much you won or lost in the year though...

nah dream crusher is young, rich, and retired.

he plays hard, plays for fun, and plays to phuck with peoples minds...kind o like how he poasts.

he knows hes winning but the money prolly doesnt even register on the radar...in terms of impacting his lifestyle. Kind of like us getting together 1x per week to play 5c - 10c.

is that about right DC?

Supposed to have those records for the IRS.

That's pretty spot on. Although, some of the terms you used are relative. For instance, the term "young." I look young, and am young relative to most retired people, but in general I'm getting quite up there in years.

Thanks. My point was mainly in regards to tracking winrates or session wins. I'll count the cash I use to gamble with at the end of the year (if I haven't lost it all) so that i know how much I'm up or down for the year (for tax purposes only though).

Please make sure and tell everyone you see at the casino they need to track theirs as well because I'm pretty sure most people don't know.

Why not just compliment it with VBA code? It's not like your trying to code the next AI. Where just talking about essentially filtering results and a maybe a couple of other bells and whistles.

Not that this applies to you, more of a general statement.

I believe for tax purposes, if you're a pro gambler you would need actual hand written session logs as back up in case of audit. Even an excel spreadsheet is not good. Granted, last time I actually had an intelligent conversation about this was like 5 years ago and I'm not a CPA, so things could have changed

I believe rec gamblers can just do an end of year net gain/lost though

Again, I'm not a CPA, so consult one before believing some rando on the interwebs

VBA is clunky in its own right and not horribly portable. Matlab is a great platform for a lot of things, so if you have a license it's an easy solution.

I've read that electronic logs were acceptable for tax purposes, but never had to deal with the IRS about it to be sure. It's hard to think they would really need/want a handwritten book. Would be harder for them to read/audit that way too.

I wouldn't want to try to hide $40k in income. Anything under about 10% of your official salary should be easy enough to miss that if you pay cash for a few things a year it wouldn't be obvious in an audit. Personal decision I suppose.

Electronic logs are fine, letter of the law wants paper/pen but courts aren't stupid. Thank god for activist judges using their brains.

I even out my big wins in past year for $25,000 with withdrawal receipts and reported all these casinos losses and end up not owing taxes on it. For poker, I just don't think I would bother unless you are really earning a living at it, not for anything under 40-50k a year. Its not really traceable especially if you have other income to compliment it. Save that cash, buy a rolex, laptop, cool toys and stuff with it.

Agree that electronic is probably ok, but if I was pulling in 100+k/year, I'd spend the $3 and 5 minutes a day on a notebook and jot it down for file. Plus you never know when your computer/phone will crash, never hurts to have a backup

Electronic logs are fine. All the IRS does is reasonably track/guess your expenses (rent or morgage, insurance, etc) and compare that with ur reported income. If your expense are estimated to be like $80k and u report $15k of income, the IRS will come a knocken at some point. Just lawfully report your income as accurately as u can and youll be fine. It's 2017, turbo tax, hr block, etc., electronic tracking is fine.

The cloud + an external HDD and no worries. Then have 3 sources to hedge worse case.

IMO never buy in short. Get a bigger bankroll to begin with or shot take with a smaller roll and be happy to go bust buying in full.

So i'm about to get called a troll...or complete Bull**** artist.

I've been winning at a God like level since I started playing live again around Thanksgiving 2016. Perhaps I'm not calculating BB/100 correctly as I ran it through a variance calculator. Here are the numbers I used playing mostly $1,3 NLHE but a little bit of $1,$2 NLHE.

$2511 total winnings
14 sessions
35 hours of live play estimated (i'm only playing around 2-4 hours, closer to 2)
$71.74 / hour
23.9 bb/hour
79 bb/100 hand (assuming 30 hands per hour live)

Am I calculating BB/100 correctly given my assumptions? I'm not quitting my day job...

35 hours is meaningless and nobody cares about BB/100 this is live poker.

Nobody is going to call you a troll because there is nothing unusual about those results over a small sample size. You are running hot and playing short sessions so you are cashing out after your big hands/double ups etc. at your session peak.

35 hours? you should quit your day job.

My first 35 hours in 2017: $2,345.

Good luck, though.

I know I'm running white hot. I'm beating pokersnowie too at 7.5 bb /100, although that's only 2500 hands. Snowie kills me at showdown though.

Yeah well I clear like 115k per year plus or minus 10k in commissions so I'll take that variance over 1,3 nlhe.

No. 35 hours is what many players would call a weekend of poker.
