I would wager there is no way in hell 20% of the players (in terms of man hours played) are winning $40/hr+.

Mine is happening right now, started back in April 2012, so about 13 months and counting. It's been brutal. I only play about 350 hours per year and I was running WAY hot prior to this break-even streak (like $80/hr at 3/5NL for 100 hours) so it's really just mean reversion normalization with a bit of run bad in there (and let's be honest - probably a good amount of frustration spew as well)

Finally was able to consolidate all my poker log excel spreadsheets dating back to my college days in NOLA with my PokerIncome iPhone app results to get some combined results for my casino action (no online results included):

I was able to play more hours while in college (and before married) during 2006 and 2007 but once I graduated and got a real job it's been more like a profitable hobby. I'd say about 30% of these hours were at 1/2 at Harrah's New Orleans/LV, 60% were at 2/5 or 3/5, and 10% at 1/1 or 1/2 home games. This makes calculating a long term bb/hr rate more difficult since my stats from 2006-2010 aren't tagged with the blinds structure played (fail, I know but I was just started to track results).

Also I've been on the longest break-even streak of my life since April 2012 which is why I've been spending more of my "real" job work hours on this site to try to study my way out of this terribad run.

My retort is no. I know most skilled playerz in las vegas at that level and I promise the number is significantly lower. Top dudes are knocking back over 50 but its a handful of dudes

figured such thats why I wanted to define terms...there are quite a few abc type pros winning 20-30/hr - nut peddling to tourists etc. But a very select few that truly pound the game (IMHO) I consider pounding 9+bb/hr. Our OP picked a number that is greater than abc yet smaller than pounding which is kind of interesting

Couple questions. How "regish" are your games? What are the stakes? is your common game 5/10 or is it even higher? (pretty sure I see you post 10/20 hands itt...just curious)

As I always have my eyes on the step after the step, I'm already eyeing the 5/10 game my room runs. But it is the same 10-15 people every fri/sat night. They also do a 10/25 with like the exact same 9 people. If you had to guess, with no description whatsoever, what would your thoughts be on a single big table such as this? In ho-dunkville. Few asians, few OMCs, few business types, and a few drug dealer types.

Games condition vary wildly, so it's hard to say, but the 5/10 games are rarely super soft overall, usually just 1-2 whales. That said only 3-4 regs actually give you any trouble, and even then they don't go out of their way to do it, just to balance and pick on you if you go too out of line isolating the whale and so on.

About 3/8ths of it is 1/2 1/3, 3/8ths is 2/5 or similar, and the remaining quarter is 5/10+.

You really have to watch the action a bit to really know. Generally though, with your description it can't be too tough of a game. It sounds good.

Generally my game when whale's not in it has a bunch of regs that aren't bad, a few nits, and old men spots who limp/call a bit wide and passive and don't vbet well, but otherwise don't give away chunks of money.

Being able to play well vs regs is a huge part of a high winrate... that said it's not necessary to win in those games. Play to your strengths, I guess. There are often 1/2 and 2/5 games that offer better winrates than 5/10.

My hourly at 5/10 can fluctuate anywhere between 50/hour to 500~ or more.

OFC he will never say games are really juicy, but if anyone can make 200k in a year games are obviously very good. I can guarantee they are much much better than australia, as he could not get out of here fast enough. And the games here are very very beatable.
