Im not at the house right now. We'd have to do this on the weekend. Lemme see if I can get a private tourney for LLSNL first. I think that would be cool. Bunch of "live" players playing online donkaments against other online donkeys. Can I post an interest thread? if it doesnt go through H2H gets first dibs on my HU action... Kurt is second. I promise you though Kurt i will put you to some tough decisions such as the all in on the first hand play and the c/r three streets tri-fecta.

Let me contact FTP first and get that setup with date and time. Then I will start a thread in LLSNL for sign ups (aka so I know who to give the password to). Hopefully we can get this going in the next couple of weeks. I am thinking Sunday afternoon? Any objections?

Finally got a chance to play at the Gold Strike in Tunica this weekend. My win rate is ridiculously high (sample still too small, but even so) and I credit this location. More spew monkeys and generally bad players than I have ever seen, at least on the weekend.

My two favorite hands I watched, both from the same player.

1.) Young guy, obviously not experienced at poker. He is playing with 3 of his buddies at the table, who talked him into playing. He knows some very basics of the game, but nothing more.
He is in EP, looks at his cards, and then asks what if he can raise. The dealer says yes, the kid asks how much, and the dealer says at least $2, and as much as you have in front of you. The kid asks if he should raise. The dealer says that is your decision.
He calls. I lol and fold.
Limps around. The flop.
K
J
8
(I put the kid on PP Ks or As FTR).
The SB (one of the guy's friends) bets $30 into a $14 pot.
Young guy calls. Everyone else folds.
Turn:
8
SB bets $30 again. Young guy asks how much he can raise, and is told minimum of $30.
He raises the minimum. SB calls with $12 behind.
River is a brick. SB shoves the $12, young guy calls with...Kings full.
I chuckled. SB had flopped a flush with 2-3.

2.) Limped pot. Maybe 6 people in it.
Flop:
J
4
8
Checks to decent female player, who bets $15.
Folds to young guy from above who calls.
Turn:
2
Young guy checks, the chick bets $30.
Young guy calls.
River:
2
Young guy checks. Female goes all in for $60.
Young guys tanks. Thinks it over. And slowly counts out the call, and immediately tables...
Q6
Female has the K.
His response? I thought any red cards made a flush. Oh dear sweet baby Jesus, why did his buddies make him leave when they busted?

----------------------------

I only logged about 10 hours of play on this trip. Played 6 on Friday, and finished up $575, and then 4 hours on Saturday for $400. Tables got nitty, so on Friday I just went to my hotel and crashed. On Saturday, I was exhausted and having some back pain, and although I was playing well, I decided not to push it and just take the almost $100/hr for this trip. I should be back here in two weeks for my final trip here this summer.
Funny, enough, I managed to to rip almost $1K, and in all of those hands I hit two flushes that I won on, two pair 3-4 times, and trips twice . Never had a set or a straight. Made most of it by snapping off some bluffs, and selective aggression.

^ I was there for the start of the WPO at the strike, the 1-2 tables really seemed tough, maybe because it was the beginning and there were some solid players, but the tourneys were a joke, I just couldn't beat the variance.....88<AJoff

Weekend or week days? I only play weekends, which probably makes a difference. The Strike was packed the last two days/nights. Played at 4 tables, and lord knows how many different players, and went up against maybe 5 players total I would consider very good. Two were well above average lags, although the one did have some holes that got wider over time. The others were solid TAGs who could change gears a little.
There did seem to a be a higher number of tournament donks this time, which helped me a bit.

Pick one book (or series). Don't buy any more. Almost any 2+2 book on the subject of NLHE will be fine, including "Professional No-Limit Hold 'EM" and "Harrington on Cash Games." Yes, everyone will have a favorite or feel that some aren't as good as others, because of an emphasis or lack of emphasis on a certain area. However, they all will cover the basics of NL play to the extent that if you play a TAG, no bluff (only cbets allowed) game, you'll be competitive at 1/2. TBH as a beginner, you won't pick up some important points that you'll only understand after a while. Nor will you get much from the differences in nuance that the books vary.

After that, there's a ton of things to learn that can be found on the micro FR forum and here that will be explained in far more detail than can be presented in a book. Eventually, you'll find your own way to play and won't worry about it being "wrong" because you'll know it works for you.

Updates...

Well my first test is tomorrow afternoon. It has been a total PINTA to study for. Lots and lots of emphasis on manual subnetting of IP addresses. It's kind of like having an accountant that has been using a calculator/spreadsheet for years, fully understanding all the calculations and such, having to go take a test using all those calculations with only pencil and paper... I don't know any network engineers that don't use a subnet calculator, just like I don't know anyone that balances their checking account with pencil and paper...

Was really surprised at how busy the test center is. In the past I was able to pretty much schedule any testing date I wanted with 24 hour notice. Nope had to pick a date 2+ weeks out for this one. Makes me think there a crap load of people doing IT training/certification right now... Wish I knew what percentage were n00bs coming into the field and how many are old vets like myself.

My job contract has been extended another month, so till the end of Sept, or at least that is what the CIO says and he is not the final word... So we shall see. Not sure how I feel about that, I like the cash flow, but hate the distractions from study...

Still trying to hit one thread a day...

U.S. economy must really be under the pump by the sound of it Percula.

I'm not familiar with the phrase "under the pump", but it sounds about right.

Ditto.

Ya things are really strange. The unemployment rate here in the PHX area is somewhere around 10%, but at the same time I have watched a huge up tick in the number of IT jobs being posted to the job boards. Back around the beginning of the year I was seeing an average of 11 new job posting per week, now I see an average of 13 per day and growing.

At the same time the company I work for is down sizing their operations here, and expanding on the East coast.

Things that make you go "Hummm"

BTW the test center called me this AM and rescheduled me for Wens as they over booked todays sessions...

ok, you asked for it. I finally found a decent postable picture from my recent adventure in Vegas (fish goes to WSOP for the first time, woo), and since someone asked, I shall post. No, I am not happy here. Yes, my stack is micro-sized. This is about 20 minutes before I busted at about 10 pm on day 2. I run so bad at table draws, FFS...

Beat: table draw on day 2 with at least two 2+2ers, Tom Schneider, and Eric Buchman. Holy f-in christ, am I ever the donkey here. ugh. can someone photoshop me drowning?
Brag: erm...I might get some TV time? Oh, and I got to freeroll the main event and made it nearly to the end of day 2.
Variance: most of stack gone to only other donk on the table when he called me down with a gutshot and hit against my overpair on the river. On the positive, I ran super hot in cash games all week!

*note: yes, I'm wearing a hoodie, because the Amazon room was f-in cold, and hoodies are warm and cozy. I never put the hood up, though

To be under the pump = to be under pressure - thinking water flowing into a ship - they used to use hand pumps to drain ships.

Think of the guy under the pump.

watched part of a 5/10 hand last night at table next to me. Not totally sure of action but i think it went like this:

Old man opens to like $50in EP, lady calls next in, to a youngish guy who makes it $200, back to old man who shoves for about like $500, lady calls, youngish guy puts lady all in for like 1.4k more, she calls.

hands??? Old man has 88, lady has 99 youngish guy has KK. KK is good till river 8 but he wins decent side pot

Spoiler:
I cant wait

just a quick funny story. Sitting at CAZ late at night young guy come in drink in his hand iwith a very hot girl, he put his name on the 1-2 list and then walked back to sit at 3-5 since 1-2 was full the 3-5 was also full as well so some guy playing 4 handed 5/10 lets him know they have open seats the guys sits down donk off 300 hundred of his 500 buyin in about 30 minutes proceeds to talk crap to table then leave. during that time they called him for 1-2 but he declined.
