NH Kurt.
Some of the dealers are cool and don't count all the pots but the owner gets mad...atleast the dealers know whats good for the game.

WTF? Aren't some you getting sick of NL players continously asking the dealer "How much is that?" when a player bets what is a real obv amount. Its like dude, he obv just bet $50, you only have $80 behind, go ahead and see if you can call???

No. I usually start looking at relieving that player of the need to have any chips counted.

One player to a hand

LOL, I though it was something like

Old
People
That
????????
???????

Or something...

Anyway, I scored a free drink, and dropped two BI's, unfortunately my nasty habit of putting someone on a hand, making a plan for the next street, only to change my mind and their range to make a call in my mind profitable...

It might matter if you think you can tell if the bettor is trying to get a shove. Some bets just sound smaller than others, like 50$ in live play is often a pyschologically stronger bet than 45$.

6 Night Vegas Trip report
Brag: Made $4,715 playing a mix of 1/2, 1/3 and 2/5
Beat: Lost $700 pot at 1/3 with 9 high to K high no draw after a pfr and 3 barrels
Variance: Busted the myth that fun single models don't play poker
06-18-2010 , 05:39 AM
NH.
Where did you find such wonderful games?
06-18-2010 , 11:15 AM
What you have listed under "variance" appears in fact to be a HUGE BRAG.
06-18-2010 , 11:18 AM
i wish variance was that kind to me....

Mandalay Bay. Best 1/2 game on the strip.
- $100-300 buy in, so games are deeper than other 1/2 like the MGM's 40-200
- More conventioners than any other game
- High hand jackpot makes locals play passively (ie: they flop trips, but don't bet the flop so that they can see the river to see if they make quads and allow your draw to get there for free)
- Have run very good in the variance dept there
06-18-2010 , 12:13 PM
The rules nittyness is out of hand at Mandalay Bay! I once got a couple locals to explain to me (by acting dumb obv) how they use the redic rules to angle inexperienced tourists. Watch your back in that game.

But it is a really soft game IME.
06-18-2010 , 04:53 PM
True. I was at the Mongoloid Bay during my spring break and my great winning streak there (2-0) was broken. It seemed tougher, but everything is tougher than 2007...

I don't know if I posted it here, but in 2008 I saw the worst floor ruling ever there where a laughing German tourist said something that sounded like "all in" while he was throwing his cards into the muck. The floor was called and they made him put the chips in with no hand. He didn't know enough English to defend himself.
06-18-2010 , 05:13 PM
Yeah. You are both right about some crazy rules enforcement there. However, players can be very influential in how a ruling comes down for better or worse. I make it a point to be on legitimately friendly terms with the casino staff, b/c it makes my experience more fun, but also so that when I am arguing a point on behalf of a helpless tourist, the floor might side w/ me and not the angle shooter. Despite the rules being on the side of the angle shooter, the floor always has the right to disregard a specific rule in order to preserve fairness and the integrity of the game.

I have the ability to keep my mouth shut when the guy getting angle shot is a douche or someone who I want off of the table, but I go way out of my way to defend helpless fish against the angles of surly regs. It makes the fish like playing w/ me and the angle-shooting regs look for another table.

Anybody else think the level of responses on this forum have went from bad to worse?

Where are all the people that lobbied for this section, have they've all bailed? As predicted by many, it's turning into the blind leading the blind around here!

I prefer the frozen foods section at the super market.

Well I would say it went from good to meh, but I agree there has been a dip in the quality of advice.

I'm going to assume its normal growing pains. As long as our regs don't bail, they'll whip the noobs into shape toot sweet.

Holy moly. I don't know which I envy more, your brag or your variance. Tho need more pics to determine if elbows are too pointy.

I have been having trouble staying fully active, not playing much poker and I agree that the quality also suddenly took a nose dive. The biggest problem I've found is a bunch of people who post threads and then argue inane points of view to defend how they played they hand and completely ignore any/all of the advice, often culminating with them calling some river overshove with bottom pair and being good and telling us how they had some great read.

So yeah, it's starting to feel like hitting a head against a brick (and unpolished) wall over and over. Perhaps this forum has almost been a victim of it's success already?

I hope so too! I have high hopes for this place as the advice has dried up heavily in the other forums and I don't want ours to go the same way.
