So wife semi-drags me out to a ukulele circle last night (whatever, night out, I had semi-fun, in spite of being the ~youngest there even though I'm ****ing old).

Anyhoo, there's a part of the night where a few people get up and do their own solo thing on stage. So this like 60++ woman gets up there with her uke, introduces her song with "so I'm doing this classic ukulele song" and launches into...

GG - I took stats last night on how often a pfr earned position in a 10 handed 1-2 underground game. In a lol small 4 hour sample size,

EP (initial pfr with 5+ IP players) 0 of 17 times got all folds from IP players
MP/LJ (initial pfr with 3-4 IP players) 7 of 12 times got all folds from IP players
HJ/CO (initial pfr with 1-2 IP players) 6 of 10 times got all folds from IP players

Stuck $40. Included some of the usual horribad shenanigans. The other winning player also lost.

Re: ***Official "It Lives, It Lives" Chat Thread***

It was an interesting exercise in that I hadn't appreciated just how often one particular player raised in EP. So, I think taking some particular stat (one that isn't too involved/distracting) is a helpful technique for me to explore more.

i might have missed why this is relevant, what is the ultimate assumption that you're trying to prove/disprove?

can there be limpers in front of PFR?

Yes, there can be limpers. The loose question being explored was: does an iso work? Do you get position when you raise preflop, or will IP players come along whether it is a limped pot or a raised pot?

What I measured doesn't prove anything of course. It was just an attempt to take a measurement on the question, and perhaps compare games.

Ha! I should've defined that term. Nothing like playing 1-2 in a garage at midnight on a Tuesday to feel like a winner.

So basically EP raisers never saw a flop in position, and overall raisers played 26 / 35 pots (67%) of pots OOP? Obviously lol sample size, but kinda sounds par for course (i.e. the chances of ending up in position actually has little to do with whether we raise or not and far more to do with where we're sitting).

On top of that it would also be interesting to track how often a raise actually thinned the field (say HU or absolute worst 3way).

Which leads me back to my preflop playing style: I simply don't see the point of raising preflop if that's going to create a multiway pot OOP (assuming non-deep and non-supershort stack depths).

BTW, how'd you find the process of stat collecting? I find tracking even very simple stuff (for instance, how often there is a raise preflop) is a real pain in the ass and side tracks me from the enjoyment of the game, especially when done over any prolonged period of time. And then it becomes even more wearisome when I realize what an insignificant sample size it no doubt will be and whether I can even draw any useful conclusions from it or not.

Had a real tough time carbon dating her age. Her look from my viewpoint from the back of the room, the crowd she was hanging out with, her grandma glasses, etc. all suggested 60++. But the way she filled out and wore her jeans suggested maybe younger.

With some more data, I might make some adjustments to my ranges. Really, I think a key will be if measured data differs from my intuition about my games. 0 of 17 certainly an eyecatcher.

Gathering data can be challenging. I try to limit the scope of what I want to measure so that when my mind inevitably wanders, I can recover enough and still have possibly meaningful data.

Sure useful conclusions could be elusive. But that's nothing new. Always a bit of a crapshoot.

Half the crowd was Asian and a lotta the whites where wearing Hawaiian shirts, so pretty sure that makes it ok.

Learning much in thread, not only is ukele night a thing, but it attracts a crowd large enough that you sit far enough away to not be confident in a 60yo read.

Is this just a local/canadian thing or am I missing out on serious date night opportunities in usa#1?

Is this like karyoke but you dont get the sound track and you need to strum it yourself? (In b4 strum it yourself again).

Not making fun, hitting google next for info.

I'd start with the ukulele forum's LC chat thread. Maybe they are had to drop down from Spanish Guitar.

Another important thing about raising from lp is that you are far more likely to get a pot heads up. Especially important for full ring.
