Does anyone have real expectations for legacy admissions candidates anyway?

Seems like it's a fair system that allows the handful of rich kids to get their hard-on going to their parents alma mater, in exchange for capital improvements to the facility.

If I've learned anything from prison movies is that you have to kill the toughest coach / kid right off the bat to cement your I'm-not-to-be-****ed-with status. Preferably in first practice to a rather minor offense.

I decided to put my ego away and move down to $5/10 for a session to see if I would do better. Literally my first hand of the day I open QQ in the HJ, get flatted by the CO and 3-bet by the button, who happened to pick up KK. Oops, 150 bb torched away the first hand of the night. Torched as in lost, but I don't really have an issue with how I played it. Spent the next 6 hours grinding out some small pots and eventually booked a moderate 100 bb loss.

The game was pretty good, as random fish are still stacking off 1-pair on flush boards, limp-calling with garbage pre and doing fish things in general. Somehow through all of this, I just have an amazing tendency to pick up strong hands when people have even stronger hands, never hit anything in good multi-way spots vs fish, and every time I have a really nutted hand no one has anything. Sets are honestly a lie. The only time I have sets is when I hit top set vs someone in a HU pot and they fold to 1 bet. This has been the story of 80% of my sessions for the last 18 months.

While I sit there bricking hand after hand and losing session after session, I witnessed today a douchy euro kid 3-bet a rec player from way too early with 43s, call a 4-bet for about 15% of his stack, and just smash two pair on the flop and stack aces for a 600 bb pot. Do I sound bitter and want to strangle that ***** kid? No, that's really just the nature of this stupid and unfair game, and some people are just luckboxes and some people are not. I'm not completely busto yet, so let's try again tomorrow and take it one day a time.
Although I echo the earlier comments of others to step away from poker, if you're going to stick with it...

I'm assuming you've put up a pretty decent winrate over a pretty decent sample? Isn't that enough to just trust your method and stay the course? And also makes fairly irrelevant how the douchy euro kid runs in his lifetime (will likely flame out playing this way, but if he doesn't, who cares)?

That seems like a post where you just want to use the words “polarized” and “configuration”.

If we 4b QQ vs a hj/co/btn configuration what hands are villains continuing with? Some AK combos and mostly KK/AA.

Then again maybe stuff like 99/TT goes with it because we have AK in our range so *shrug*

I assume he meant polarized bc it could be a legit 3! or a squeeze 3! after the CO calls. /Shrug

I don’t get what part of sabrs post leads you to believe that a button sqz vs HJ and CO is “polarized” and why flatting QQ in a multi-way pot oop would be good.

Welp I got seriously humbled today. I know my strengths and endurance aint one of em.

SPC has bin training to shatter the highland games rock carry record - currently stands @1209' for a 94 pound rock

She has been training with a 107# rock in preparation. Today she carried it 700' which alone is hugely impressive

I decided that yolo ima work on what I know to be a weakness of mine and see whats up. Got 450' b4 my low back said drop that sht. This was my first attempt ever at doing this. So I am now committed to catching up with a chick that I outweigh by over 40 pounds

If you were playing in games were people are playing that tight to 4bets you should be 4bettijg a metric **** ton.

If you are playing games where people have that type of a three bet range, enjoy opening with invincibility.

People are much wider than AK AA.

Killing is a bit harsh but overall, yeah, that's about what I do. Every group of boys has an alpha male or two and it's best to send your message through them.

ding ding ding

slipping $5k to the water aerobics coach avoids 2 million+ to the Dean's pet project. They will pay lip service that 'it's about the kids' when it's about the money.

In football, when I ran much more, I was 170 and close to the same height, still didn't enjoy it. I even did a winter/spring in HS when I was running 20ish miles/week with one of my XC friends. I got remarkably better at running very quickly, but just never got a real feel for it

I haven’t been able to run on the roads since my knee reconstruction but I loved it before then. Ran a marathon and a few halves albeit I wasn’t ever a ‘runner’ etc and used to do a few 45 min runs during the week and then a 90 min run on weekends. Once you can get to a certain level of running fitness and you get that ‘feel’ and it becomes easy, it’s fantastic way to get out and get away from everything

My brother has taken it to a whole other level and runs the most insane kind of marathons and ultras. He’s done a 100 mile race in the Colorado mountains at altitude the past two years and even this isn’t enough for him - there’s some 5 day thing in the Alps he’s doing next year

He’s 5.10/150 these days and I’m guessing this helps keep his knees ok. Think I ran my marathon at about 182 or something.

at my current weight (and when i was heavier), i actually refuse to run for fitness. i've never had bad knees, but i'm worried that the continual impact would compound quickly. if (when, knock on wood) i get back to like 215ish, i probably would start to include some, solely so i can be more athletic.

Re: ***Official "It Lives, It Lives" Chat Thread***

any of you ever negotiate with a mortgage broker? not sure if i'm doing this right.

she told me the rates were 4.25%. i said i'm looking at stuff online at 3.875% and if she offered 4% i'd sign today. she said she would have to get confirmation and never called me back.

like, is the .25% really that huge? they're going to literally sell the mortgage a month after i sign it anyway. it's the company i used for my 1st mortgage, so i'm not some random person

The difference on a 300K, 25 year mortgage between 4.25% and 4% is $41/month (1,619 vs 1,578). A 3.875% mortgage is 1,559.

41/mo x 12mos x 25 yrs = $12,300, which is 6,150BB. So yeah the quarter point matters.
