Beautiful bike weather in Indy today. Battery was dead after a long winter in the garage, so I had to jump it. Then a nice long ride to charge it up.

Now at the brewery for beer and wings. Hope it starts after dinner, or at least keeps enough of a charge for the kickstart to work.

Bought some kombucha from Sprouts not knowing it's sold at 7-11

They have kombucha on tap at the office back in NYC. Had to chuckle at that one.

My previous office had beer on tap. It was nice having a brewski after a long day, or on a Friday afternoon. Or a wednesday. Or any time you wanted really.

Anyone here actually drink kombucha? I have some friends that are really into that stuff. I might like it if it wasn't $4 a bottle.

I don't particularly like or dislike kombucha. I prefer to just drink tea. I'm a tea snob though and most products called "tea" are not tea to me.

Has tea reached the snobbiness of coffee in where people are using things like a chemex, digital scales, special grinders, and other oddities?

When I was in advertising, I had my own bar fridge by my desk and had a weekly delivery for beer, wine and soft drinks. Was ****ing awesome

Re: ***Official "It Lives, It Lives" Chat Thread***

Thanks for the advice Skip and Feel. Lots of good stuff in there. I made sure to explain my expectations at the beginning of practice with the parents and kids all in a group so we understand the consequences and no one feels singled out.

I am going with a warning, then five minutes, then until practice is done. Didn't get any blow back from any of the parents (yet), and the kids had a good today, only had to give out warnings and that ended the behavior at least with me.

Now I just have to get the other coaches on the same page. I have this older volunteer who wants to make them run as punishment, and is contradicting what I laid out which is pretty annoying.

Probably going to send out a group text to the coaches reminding them that I have set the consequences for the behavior and it is what I expect everyone to follow and that we all need to actually follow through with the steps and stay consistent.

I am pretty young at least compared to the other coaches, and I think it rubs some of them the wrong way when they are being told what to do, especially since they all have "coaching experience."

Also the hovering parent took it well so all is good with that. Just let him know that for liability he can't be around the kids without the background check and he was understanding. Pretty sure I just overthink a lot of this stuff and expect parents to react in the worse way, but then again I have seen some crazy parents when you mix sports and kids.

Name is kinda silly imo but the tea is legit fresh and high-quality. The "green tea" you usually get here is garbage water.

Well done. There are nutty parents but you can usually identify those early on. Generally if you are clear and consistent, most will respect you even if they are unhappy. And the ones who don't? **** 'em. You weren't going to keep them happy no matter what.

You will need to get the one coach in check. Been years since I had that issue (like 2002 I think) but that one ended ugly. Well for the other coach anyway. lol

Is that expensive for tea? Less than a $1 a cup is cheaper than I was expecting.

For me it is a couple of things.

As a former player that has had to run a lot, for group punishment and individual, I just made the decision that if I was ever going to coach I was not going to run players as punishment.

I hate running. That hate comes from running 100 poles on a hot ass day because individuals were messing around and the team had to suffer. It comes from running lines until we had players throwing up, and are coach ended up fatiguing our legs right before our section championship game because players were jumping snaps in practice.

I don't want players that I coach to associate running with punishment. Running is for conditioning not punishment. At least that is how I see it.

Also liability reasons, I don't want to get sued if little johnny injures himself because he was running as a punishment.

One time one of my assistants said “I’m twice your ****ing age”.

I told him yeah, and you know half as much.

Don’t take **** from them either, I want to say I was 20.

I agree for the most part. I do use line runs in hoops as a negative reinforcement now and then, but not for long as usually as a means of getting attention.

I actually allot zero practice time to running. My teams do a metric **** ton of it during practice. My time is usually limited so I want everything we do to be skill related in some way. Basketball is easier though as working running into drills is absurdly easy.

There are lots of highly expensive teas for true snobs (rich mutha****as in China basically) but I'm not looking to spend a fortune on tea. I know what's decent when I see it though.

Re: ***Official "It Lives, It Lives" Chat Thread***

During football if you goofed off you had extra laps or extra sprints. It was just extra of what everyone else was already doing.

In crew you mostly got punished as a boat, which peer pressure handled for the most part. It only took one punishment run for everyone to realize they needed to hold each other accountable. Alternatively coaches would have the bow or stern 4 row the boat in to the boathouse. Both sucked and was embarrassing.

I actually never really considered the fact that I might hate running/cardio because my entire life running has been a punishment.

That makes a ton of sense
