That's just it, playing softball at the risk of losing the bet due to injury seems perfectly fine at 3-1.
Part of the bet is doing what is necessary to complete the bet. In the same way he'd be sacrificing his time with the extra work jumping, he'd be sacrificing playing softball to avoid injury which would cost him the bet.
