I guess that highly depends on the eyes looking.

Two of their very famous live productions (On the night and double album Alchemy) was released in the early or mid 90s. On the night is 1993 i believe, Alchemy 1996. On the night is the nutz in my book. The perfect mix of passion in their music, professional appearance live due to routine, still hungry as **** and just delivering on everything.

Some people probably think the golden era was earlier when the band was even younger, but i am not aboard that.

As much fun as it would be to prove you wrong, just don't care enough. Seriously even Mark knopfler is laughing at your opinion.

Dire straights were late 70s and 80s, nobody - except for Norway apparently - gave a fkc about them in the 90s.
David Gilmour did an amazing live tour in the 90s, that doesn't mean those were his best years.

Me, a peasant: Bands start doing live records when they have ran out of creative ideas and want to capitalize on the glories of the past.

You, lit: That's when bands really get it together! Arranging and playing instruments is more important than composing tunes and writing lyrics!

I mean, this whole discussion could have been avoided if Petrucci said that he really enjoyed their live performances. Instead by saying that the early 90s represented their golden era implies a peak of artistry and cultural relevance neither of which is the case.

I know you mention the Dave Gilmour case just as an example, but i think he actually had some of his best moments in the 90s too. Or at least end of the 80s with the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour, and the Division Bell tour in the early 90s as we know from the legendary Pulse live album.

Some of the best live tours ever seen. Both he+ the band was at the very top of their game. The younger years is not often the nutz.

Musicians is often like a top quality piece of meat, women or a fine bottle of wine: they get only better with age.

So what you're saying is the pink Floyd performance at Woodstock was subpar?
