rob - happy to wager a c-note on this just for grins. 10' reg rim, no bs ally oop, nba ball, no angle shooting. Just u and yer own power setting it down.

I read somewhere that human beings can’t jump higher than 50 inches

No idea if it’s true or not

I just tried it, 5 inches definitely confirmed very difficult.

Yesterday at softball I jumped up to snag a line drive over my head and somebody in the other dugout said “wow he was floating”. I guess I randomly got hops.

Yeah I’m hoping y’all don’t need to worry about angleshots.

Some basics.

10ft rim of course (I will do this at UNLV), reg ball, running start, no alley oops, ball starts in my hand but I don’t need to to dribble. Anything else you guys care about let me know.

Let’s discuss odds and timeframes tho.

Here’s the hustle part, I’m fat and white and can’t run a 40 in under 5 seconds. I’m thinking 4-1?

I’d give 4:1 if you want a month. Lower odds for longer time

Also i agree with Miami it should be a limited # of attempts. Can live stream it on periscope or something

I want more than a month. I think I want two months, this also syncs with my trip to thailand

no odds. U can grab the rim. I assume u have had zero jump coaching. A simple program available on the intertoobz can add quite a bit by simply fixing major issues in your mechanics - and a month with focused training i see no problem dunking at 5'11"

4:1 you guys are nuts

Why are so many randoms at the table cool with directly asking you
"So you play for a living? How much do you make?
- I do OK
"But like how much an hour?"
"How much a year?"
"How many hours do you play a week?"
"I don't think I could do it, what if you have a losing week?"

These are the same people who would never answer my "Oh, you're a assistant to the sales director? How much do you make a year, what's your health care coverage, what square footage is your house?"

They'd be offended

I think the real odds depends on Rob's actual motivation to do this which he would know best.

But I would say 2 months he could absolutely do this if he lost weight and focused purely on vertical jump training and dunking technique. Whether he cares enough to do it is another question.

Weight plays a huge factor. When I wrestled in high school I only weighed 150lbs and could dunk a mini ball at 5'8".

When I gained my 30lbs of weight back I could barely touch the rim.

Why would someone not tell you the SF of their house?

I mean, it's public information and I'll find it out after I follow you home anyway...

Couple parameters I’ll just lay out.

I want 2 months minimum.

I won’t do it at even money

What happens in the case of an injury?
Cancelled bet?
10-02-2018 , 09:13 PM
Yeah that would also have to be a parameter as well. Honor system of course with injuries.

I’m not gonna fake a broken leg don’t worry

So we're talking about going from finger holding rim to fully dunking a regulation basketball in 2mo at 5'10" 235?

Interesting to see if cutting your weight would affect your ability to get the strength needed for the extra height. Or alternatively, if maintaining your current strength/ roughly 97% like FW's article suggested, while losing weight would be enough to get you to dunking.

Assuming you'd lose weight to get there. You could just go super specific training for 2mo and get there.

Fun bet either way. Glgl

Rob already has enough strength and muscle. If I were him I'd focus on weight cut and jump specific training.

You won't lose any meaningful amount of strength that's required for dunking by cutting weight if done properly.

Also he said he fully grabbed the rim which is about a 3" difference from touching with uour finger. He probably needs another 5 to clear for a dunk.

I think it's definitely doable and seems like a coinflip to me. As a bettor I wouldn't lay any odds, but I definitely understand his view. It's gonna take a lot of work on his part and given a narrow enough time constraint it's not a sure thing by any means. It would be a cool thing to see though regardless. Not many people can dunk that are under 6 ft tall.
10-02-2018 , 11:59 PM
What do you think the lb to inch ratio is?

Let's say 2lbs a week to not lose a lot of strength is reasonable, anything less and you fair better strength wise and anything more and you risk losing too much strength. That's ~16lbs in 2mo.

He has to gain an inch of vert per 3lbs lost to cover 5".

To put it another way, does a 5'10" 219 guy have 5" more vert than a 5'10" 235 guy?
