2/3 NL

Table started up ~30-40min prior so reads aren’t great. This hand was also from >2months ago. Hero (~280) has aggressive image relative to table and recently showed down a hero call with third pair to take down a smallish pot. Table is generally weak passive with an apparent LAG (from aforementioned hand) and one or two apparent TAGs (from this hand):

V1 (EP): unknown, hasn’t played any significant hands yet, seems TAGish
V2 (MP): mid-late 20s Asian TAG. Hasn’t gotten out of line since table started.
Both Villains are ~200 effective. Hero started hand with ~280.

Preflop: V1 opens 12, V2 calls. Hero (CO) calls with 99
Flop (~35): J84
V1 checks, V2 checks, Hero bets 20. V1 folds, V2 calls.
Turn (~75): 7
V2 checks, Hero bets 35, V2 raises to 75. Hero?

Even though we block some draws, I like betting the flop for protection, and expect to be good most of the time given the action. I would've gone $25-$30 though.

Given we bet the flop for protection, there's a lot of riverswe don't want to see, and we picked up equity, I would fire again for $50. AP, fold. Turn x-r are pretty nutted. He probably has a hand LIKE T9s, 87s, or a slowly played set. I don't buy that this is a draw until I have seen villain play a draw aggressively.

I'm ok with preflop. I'd rather have more players in the pot to more lean towards setmining (even though our IO aren't great), but in position we also have room to sometimes play this hand UI postflop.

I'm also betting the flop when checked to. I'm fine with our sizing; we're not looking to build a huge pot with this mediocre hand, just looking to protect our equity with what looks to be the best hand based on the information we have.

I'm fine with our turn bet. I doubt dude is slowplaying a fairly drawy board on the flop so I'm pretty confident I'm against a draw or a mediocre pair. The OESD did get there although combo-wise it is reduced thanks to our holdings. So I'm fine with another smallish bet as likely the last one I'm putting in the pot. And I now fold to the check/raise. Against some who is more likely to get out-of-line and put us potentially in dumb spots and perhaps bluff the river if we show turn weakness, I wouldn't hate a check back to setup a bluffcatcher, but not as much against a straightforward guy who hasn't gotten out-of-line.

Why are we betting the turn? Feels pretty meh.

I like the turn bet. I would bet 25 on flop and bit bigger on turn. Turn is easiest fold ever to the checkraise

Very clear spot where hero can have a very wide range. PF raiser and 1 other player checked. You're definitely getting called by worse here, or else it's super profitable for your bluff range.

I like the flop bet but the turn you should be checking.

I think you guys are losing money by checking this turn. It's unlikely anyone has a J given action so not betting is burning money.
