Need help for Bet sizing for a small-ball LAG style NL 1/2 Need help for Bet sizing for a small-ball LAG style NL 1/2

I find the routine 10-12 bets really crowds up my SPR and makes it difficult to do my double and occasional triple barrel without risking 1/2 my stack or more.

Should I just open to 6 or 8? How do I adjust a rather effective online strategy to this live structure?

Live 1/2 NL is boring as hell unless it plays at least as big as 10/20 fixed limit, IMHO.

If it plays smaller than that it will be pretty tough to beat the rake, much less have a win rate better than working at McDonalds.

Using my 10/20 example, if we play three streets of 10/20 with only one bet each street, that's almost half a stack (in $100 buy-in NL) right there.

Live is fundamentally different from on-line.

Nobody is multi-tabling.

Most of them didn't drive to the casino to play for small bets.

Take it from a Paradise Poker multi-tabler - opening to 6 or 8 will be a lightning rod for 3-bets to 20 or 25. The Villains will think you are pot-sweetening rather than playing for value.

Hmmm...

Maybe that's not such a bad thing!

1/2 is beatable. 20/hr is possible but very rare.

6-8 will get multiple callers. I you want to get heads up or 3way most of he time it's gotta be bigger. Just he way live is.

Please note the "why raise so much" thread on the front page OTF. Check out mpethy and sabr's posts for good thoughts on your preferred style. At 1/2, though, I think there is more value to be had by getting as much out of these flopaholics as possible pre.

do not get so focused on playing LAG. on vast majority of tables TAG is by far the best way to play. LAG simply isnt profitable at most tables.
tighten up your range. raise to $10 to $15. raise with AT+ 88+ and loosen up only if table is tight enough pre or post

Have you considered adjusting by double and triple barreling less often?

playing lag is a joke at 1/2 and 2/5 mostly due to the rake alone

LAG play is fun. I'm trying to gradually open up my game as my confidence increases. I'm probably somewhere between LAG and TAG, and I play in a room full of maniacs so things can get pretty wild.

A couple things. Pay attention to who is behind you. Like, if I have two tight ABCs to my left then a maniac after them, my ranges at the HJ and after the HJ are drastically different. (Basically BU, CO, and HJ wide open, after HJ standard TAG range).

I wouldn't worry about small balling it. Just raise whatever gets pots 3 way-ish and go from there. If they will pay a steep price to play with you OOP, charge them that price. So many people will limp AQo, you raise them to $21 with T8s, they call OOP and fold the flop when you both didn't hit. It's better for you when they called $21 than if they called $15.

Beware the "always push the bet button on the flop" leak. I have this leak. I will raise to $20 with AJo from the CO, get two limp/callers and the flop comes KQ4. They both check to me and I just can't resist throwing $40 to try and steal it. Then I get check raised right off my gutshot/over by someone who shows a king after I fold. SIGH. I know I should be checking to see a free turn there. But I just can't do it. It's like my hands have a will of their own.

One of the biggest advantages LAGs have is taking free cards. Gotta take advantage of that.

I'm trying to learn to cbet when I have a good hand or nothing at all, but often I just cbet automatically with those in between hands, like gutshots or second pairs. Don't fall into that trap.

Your thread is a little silly because it's so vague. Better to explore this sort of thing with a real hand example.

Good luck.
