Live $1/$3, I have approximately 100BB.
JJ BB, raised five limpers to 21 and all five called. Pot is 126. Flop is 5-8-9 with a FD. SB donks out 20 and only has like 50 behind. I raise to 75, fold, fold, fold, raise all in (156 total), original bettor folds and its 81 more for me to call. So 81 into 276. I’m getting better than 3:1 so I call. Villain shows 8-5 for two pair and wins the pot. The $20 donk bet threw me off on the flop. I guess I could have made it 60 on the flop and then folded to any serious aggression. Is there a better way to play this hand? I could have flatted the flop, then folded to aggression. I could have also just pushed all in on the flop.

This is the minimum I would make it preflop, I would like it to be more around 25$. Depending on what tupe of table of it would determine my sizing. This is a scary board to see when so many players limp-call. We need to pop up this bet, if you flat the 20$ its beyond terrible and I think it's just results oriented thinking because you know you got jammed on. Getting such good odds now we can't fold.

I like your line better than the alternatives.
Just calling the 20 is weak, what do you do if there's a raise after that? Plus are so many bad turn cards.
A fold wouldn't have been awful, but in a 1/3 game I think that's too nitty.
With these stack sizes I call like you did. You're up against 78 or one over flush draws enough to make this ok.

Preflop I guess I agree with previous post, but I wouldn't make it much more. 30 at the most, 25 is better. Pre-flop over bets at a 1/2 or 1/3 table always reek of TT, JJ where someone would rather win the limps than play a tough hand post-flop.

Definitely agree I should have made it more pre-flop, around 25. I didn't think I would get so many callers. I think I have to call the all in as well. I'm just not sure about the flop bet I made. When I made it 75 I knew I was committed to calling an all in. It was an awkward spot with the stack sizes. I'm not sure how I get away from this hand on the flop with an spr of a little over 2.

How about min-raising the donk bet, then folding or calling a shove based on what you think the shover is capable of?

I don't think this is a good idea due to the many draws that are calling. I have no idea that I'm going to be shoved on when I bet, but I know I want to make sure the draws don't get the right price to call.

your giving great odds to anyone with a draw and turn is going to be a pretty hard spot.

Grunch

I think the flop is either a shove or a fold, especially of some of the other players in the hand don't have you covered. There are enough hands/draws out there that you have beat that it still should be profitable, although high variance. I like variance though, so I probably shove. Getting someone with a flush draw to fold isn't exactly a bad thing either.
