Nice thread/blog. Read just about everything. I sarted playing online cash with the intention of beating €1/2 live but have gotten fond of the web micro-cash-game-aments and am quite happy playing there too.

I'm considering having a go off grinding a local €1/2 game horribly under-rolled. I started playing cash last Jan and have moved from 2 to 25nl and have a small BR of about $1.3k.

The local game is full of lag-tards who will blow their entire stack on chasing a flush and fold equity is pretty much non-existant and I find it difficult to know where I am against them.

For eg. I 4bet shoved 90BB's into an 20BB EP 3bet from a total aggro-drooler who called with QT (and made a straight FML).

The local live game is mouth watering as the rewards could be quite good from a micro-player's perspective but in all honesty I'm afraid of the variance for the moment and will wait until I have more experience.

Just read the whole thread, I am surprised there was no talk about private cash games in vegas or los angeles. In the san fernando valley I know of 5 different home games that are softer (but higher rake) then any games in Commerce, HP, or the Bike.

Thirded!

Would be very interesting to hear, especially in conjunction with the "Staying Ahead of the Curve" thread.

This is the best I've ever seen this mindset described. I've seen many players at 1-2 live games like this and I myself am one of them. I lose most of my money when I get in this mode. If I have $120 of the originally $300 I brought after 5 hours, I'm going to definitely be in this mode and quickly give it away instead of cashing out.

How does one avoid losing discipline?

I think its time for a refresh. Compare what you think about the game now to what you thought about it on the first page. I think this is perfect time for a refesh because of the two hot topics on the forum right now - table dynamics/raise sizes and playing for a living at 1/2. What are your current thoughts and are you making a living playing 1/2, which is what I assume you are playing still?

+1
This is a great thread, but I don't think it ever got the conclusion it deserved. C'mon mpethy, give us a sweet epilogue FTW.

Just finished reading the whole thread and it was a great read. The type of prose that makes you want to hop in the car and head to the casino yourself. I've been playing 1-2NL and some shot taking at 2-5 alot since BF. I think you can definitely make a decent living at 1-2 but it's not as easy as it looks. It takes so much more than skill and luck to get by. I think discipline and emotional control are the two biggest factors in making you a winner long term. And I +1 the thought on getting to 2-5 ASAP. The play is basically the same, sometimes worse, but the pots are double the size. Good money, IMO.

Yeah, there is now no doubt whatsoever in my mind that you can make a living at $1/$2 in Vegas if your lifestyle if fairly frugal. I've met several guys who are doing it, and I'm scraping by, too.

REALLY dying to get to 2/5, but that's up to the DOJ and Group Bernard Tapie at this point. <shrug>

What kind of BR are you working with for 1-2? Do you have a system that determines when you can take a shot at 2-5? If you were a live grinder that was just starting out, how big of a roll would you start with at 1-2 and how big of a roll do we need to play 2-5 as our main game? Thanks in advance.
