Moving to Vegas in 6 months Moving to Vegas in 6 months

Hello. I am moving to Las Vegas in about six months when my lease is up on my apartment where I currently reside, which is 2,000 miles away. I've looked into the surrounding area of Las Vegas as well, and will probably end up residing in Henderson or something like that. I play live no limit low-stakes, as in $1/2 and $1/3. I've only played for about four days at the Venetian, and just for a few hours at a handful of other casinos. I liked the Venetian a lot.

I have some questions:

What are the good places to start playing at these limits? It's been about a year and a half since I've been there so things have changed.

What casinos have the best comps and restaurants that you can use those comps in?

What are the good areas to live that aren't too far from the strip? I've looked up a lot about living in metro Las Vegas, but some personal insight wouldn't hurt.

What's the best means of transportation? For example: if I live in Henderson and want to get to the strip. Is a car ideal? I don't want to be more than 30 minutes from the strip. I'm not a huge fan of driving. 20 minutes away would be great.

I'm trying to think of more questions, but I'm drawing blanks. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Are you planning to move to Vegas to play full time?

Who knows in six months. Definitely at least 20 hours/week to start though. I still have to work and probably will still have to work when I transfer down there. There are other things I love to do, so poker will never be my entire life. I will always earn money by other means and enjoy it. But I aim to move down there so I can play full-time hours in the future. I truly love the cash game. I love all games, but the live no-limit cash game is my favorite game of all time. I want to play poker whenever I want for the rest of my life. Sorry if this response is over-detailed.

No worries your original post sounded a little naive too me and so I was just curious whether you had a backup plan. I played full time for about 4 months this year while waiting for the start date at another job (I had 1500-2000 winning hours). I really enjoyed playing poker before that and wondered how people could complain about putting in volume. But sure enough I also hit a wall and wanted to make sure you were taking the downsides into consideration before deciding to play full time.

First, if you are going to play poker for income, I would advise California over Vegas. If you are set on Vegas (or anywhere for that matter), check out Craigslist. You can rent a room for a fraction of the cost and it usually includes wifi, utilities, and furniture. It will save you a ton until you can find a roommate or more permanent arrangements.

2000 miles sounds cross country. If you live in the East Coast you might be better suited for Florida. Nice weather and plenty of action for low stakes grinders. If you are northeast maybe Maryland Live (and their new MGM casino in January) would be a good fit if you dont mind cold weather. I wouldnt move all the way across country to play the smallest limit poker available, save that for when you are a 2/5 crusher minimum looking to move up to 5/10.

I always get a kick that so many grinders end up moving to Las Vegas to play 1/2 and 1/3 when there are softer games at this level all across the country.

As for which casinos, that's just personal preference. I'd say the games are good at all of them.

BTW, this is the wrong sub-forum for this information. I'd recommend you check out the Las Vegas Lifestyles sub-forum which is full of players in Vegas and there are multiple topics covering some of the things you are asking about.
