2/3 NL

Hero opens to $15 with KK UTG+1 ($300)
4 callers
Villain is in SB ($150)

Flop:
994hxx

Checks to hero who bets $40
Only villain calls

Turn:
7h

SB checks
Hero ???

Is this spot almost always a check back on the turn? Villain is an older Asian gentleman, but has not gotten out of line and seems to bet his hands with aggression when he has it. I don’t really see much gamble in him and the call on the flop just screams a 9 because I would rarely expect him to continue with A4s. I am also ok with my PFR because the table has been fairly passive/nitty.

Table passive yet you still get 4 callers.... weeee

That said given the description of Villian check back the 7h and evaluate the river.

I probably check turn for pot control/deception.

Then bet river if checked to, and call most bets on most rivers.

if this is true than he shouldn't show up with a 9 here

wouldn't he play this way with 10 10 88 AK

V only has $150, there is no pot controlling. Now he only has $95? Just shove turn.

O, yeah, didn't see stack size. Just ship the turn. He has 2/3 PSB left.

Flop bet is a little big on this board. I'm checking back turn to bet the river.

We had 4 callers because we only made it $15 to go pre.

In my games the same thing happens.

Problem is, we don't want four callers.

(Even if we wound up winning this hand.)

Size it up to 20 or 25 IMO.

Umm, tables can be passive and have a lot of flop callers. It's just bad players playing fit or fold. Doesn't have anything to do with the aggression level.

His stack is $150 in a 2/3 game? $95 behind in a $150 pot?

Jam the turn and move on to next hand...

Your preflop result has resulted in a very multiway spot, with you perhaps having a face up hand (unless you are raising a bunch of different stuff UTG+1 which you probably really shouldn't be), and creating an SPR ~4 (which means that stacks can go in just 2 PSBs, and trivially easy over 3 streets, and perhaps even as early as the flop depending on how many people get involved). Do you find this to be a good spot which you are comfortable in? If so, preflop is fine. If not, do something different preflop.

It's a pretty drawless board. I don't think a check here is criminal, although it does risk the 3outer Ace hitting. Pot is $75. If I was betting on such a bone dry board, I might just bet $25, I don't think there is much reason to go much bigger.

At this point, the pot is $155 and this guy only has $95 left. By the looks of things he was pretty much the closing-the-action caller, which strength wise isn't nearly as scary as being like the first caller of the cbet with others still to act behind. So I think we're committed. The question is whether we just get it in now or check behind to make sure we don't fold out worse. I probably check behind to make sure he doesn't do a hero fold of ~TT / easier fold of ~88 and get the rest in on the river.

This shallow, just push the money in. You're going to called by weaker hands on the turn that have a chance to get something than on the river when he figures he's beat.
