Micro buy-in tournaments as first experience? Micro buy-in tournaments as first experience?

Hi!

I am currently learning cash games and planning to join live 1/2. However I havent played live never before. So my question is: Is it okay to play 18 man 25 eur tournys just for the first live experience to get comfortable with chips, people and everything? I am living in a country where average salary is 1300 euro. 1/2 might be the lowest stake live but there's serious money moving here. This is no joke.

It is probably a good way to get a little experience just sitting at a poker table before putting significant money on the line. Just be aware going in that you are going to lose your money unless you get very lucky. This is a way to limit your loses until you get comfortable sitting at the table.

Don't play too much, live and tournament are just different enough skill sets that learning one doesn't automatically make you good at the other. For the same reason, don't try to learn both at the same time. Pick one and focus on it until your profitable. Then you can consider looking at the other types of games.

Yeah, those micro tournaments are highly raked and have bad structures. Just consider that you're paying for entertainment and the chance to get some experience with playing live, handling chips, counting pot-sizes, etc. Once you feel comfortable in the live environment, I'd ditch them quickly.

It's probably better to play nitty at 1/2 with a full stack than tournaments. Tournaments are the highest variance form of poker.
