I was at the turning stone casino this weekend and I came across this hand. The max buy in for the 2-5 game is 500, and I was stuck 2 buying already. I started the hand 450 effective.

I straddled utg to 10
Got 7 callers, looked down at 33 and raise to 75 to steal the 80 dollars
Utg+1 calls, and the cutoff calls.
Flop was 10s10c5s
I continue for 100 utg +1 goes into the tank and finally pushes all in for 190 total.
I reluctantly make the call and he flips over qc10d.

I get very lucky and spike a 3 on the river.

Everyone said my play was awful and/or stupid.

Thoughts?

I personally check my option and hope to hit my set, otherwise I am done with the hand, especially OOP. As played, you kind of have to bet the flop or check/fold. You are priced in to making the call for the last of your stack

Your play was mostly awful and/or stupid....but his play was worse.

How confident were you that you could get to the flop HU or take it down pre? It sounds like your plan was to steal, but how often is that gonna happen against 7 people? Obviously, the lower variance route is to check and set mine, but I don't hate the pf line (even if I wouldn't play it this way myself).

Once you get to the flop, the hand sort of plays itself. You continue telling your story, and if someone spiked a 10 (there should be very few Ts out there, due to pf), they get your money. You fold out big aces, medium pairs, and pretty much all drawing hands other than AXss (did you have the 3s?). Once he shoves, you have about 10% most of the time and you're getting 90/650, 14%, so if he can be shoving any draws or air (which I doubt), you sort of have to call off. I assume you were expecting to call if shoved on from this player?

The play is defensible if not amazing (your V's was terrible). Nice job hitting your set

I'm all about postflop play and would rather just flop a set and stack someone than steal $80 pre. I mean if you're raising this much with 33 then you might as well be doing this with every hand. The fact someone called that much with QT rag is actually worse than your bluff, since at least you had a purpose. WTF does *he* think he's gonna hit to get it in with? But it also goes to show how futile your attempts to steal are going to be in most live games, and you should have kinda known this.

If Hero was in LP, and made a big raise to steal, then I would be OK with preflop but everyone knows that people who straddle very often make a big raise to steal the limp money so people limp big hands all the time looking to trap. That's makes this preflop steal after straddling way too risky. Not too mention that straddling UTG is the worst play in poker to begin with.

Also, nobody who calls $80 is folding a pocket pair on that flop.

Your raise was too small and stacks are too shallow to be attempting this with 33.

Don’t straddle with an effective stack of 450. Whole hand was tilt/spew.

if you want to do this you need to raise to over 100, but gosh I hate to do it with your hand into seven people. It's suicide.

But the flop call was even worse

if you really want to steal, go all in pre. if somebody is calling QT for 75, somebody will probably call a broadway ace for all in
