I'm viewed as a spewy aggro utg limps I open jj to 25 button flats limper calls 475 effective going to flop. 3-6-10dd check hero bets 45 button flats utg flats. Turn 8x (what's our play? As this hits both there range some of the time) check hero bets 140 button flats utg folds. River 9 I shove. After discussion with my buddy we argued a bit about keep the pot small on the turn by check calling then giving up on this bad river. I explained that the utg player is god awful and that on the turn I should be ahead of both hands very often. Do we check turn or get in more money?

The turn is played fine maybe a little on the large side unless you're vs big stations, but check back the river. It's not just a 7 that beats you, V has a lot of two pairs now by the river. You can't really bet small as busted FDs will raise you and you'll probably fold.

Up to turn is played fine.

River you have 2 decisions. Either bet for thin value or check/call. I dont think check/folding is a great idea as it is pretty exploitable.

So the pros to betting for value:
get value out of all 10x hands that would check back (J10, Q10, K10, A10) which should take up a decent % of his range getting to this river.

the negative of betting the river:
you value cut yourself vs 2pair hands and straights and dont get any value from missed flush draws.

By checking the river, he may check back his 2 pair hands that beat you if he doesn't value bet well. He may turn 1 pair hands into bluffs. He can bluff missed flush draws.

So both have their merits, i usually tend to go for thin value but I think this spot is pretty close and I may lead to check/calling or check/re-evaluating the river. Its hard for him to have a 7 in his range without calling the flop bet with a gutter/67/ or 107.

I think check/calling this river vs opponents who bluff miss draws is my standard line and check/folding if I know they are capable of going for value with 2 pair (which most don't).

Since your image is "spewy" you can't check back turn when you are likely ahead. V should call you down with all kinds of Tx hands here.

Funny thing about Tx here is that his range should be almost split between kickers greater than a T and lessor kickers that make 2p. Since we can discount T6 and T7 that really leaves V's Tx range as T8, T9, JT, QT, KT, AT

the only downside to betting river here though is that we don't give V the chance to bluff a busted flush draw. Unfortunately, you didn't provide much description of V's tendency in the OP. You said he was godawful but that doesn't tell us if he is aggressive awful or passive awful which makes a difference in how you should play river.

If he is aggressive awful then you want to c/c river

If he is passive awful then you want to shove river

as played, shoving river is thin but with your image should be +EV. Most playable Tx combos are weighted towards broadway Tx which you beat. Its thin though but fine...

Fine with how it was played. I would check/call the river. Give Villian a chance to bluff here. If he has air, you win nothing.
