This is my first post on 2+2 and English is not my first language, so sorry if some of this stuf is confusing lol I've been grinding online for years now and only recently decided to try some live poker (about 6 weeks to be exact). Its completely different compared to online but seems super fishy. I have been crushing 1-2/1-3, making £35/hr over 150h period, though this rate seems too high to be maitained over long term as its 5% rake capped at £10. Anyways I keep finding myself in some tough spots, so I wanted to share a few hands to get some advice, especially from live low stakes grinders

HERO*

Unknown LAG in his early 20s, raising pre flop about15-20% of the time and about 40% IP, 3 betting light in good spots, has made a few big bluffs. Picked up a lot of small pots, the only showdown, during 2h session was 5bet shove with QQ into AA (which I was forced to show as I was the last aggressor and everyone was eager to see my hand) Stack £650

Villain

Reg playing weak TAG, limps/calls too much, raises/3bets top of his range (10+, AJ+, KQ), likes to slow play monsters, aggro when has a hand, takes marginal hands too far ie. TPNK Stack*£700

TABLE

£1-£3, 8 handed, fairly loose, everyones playing deep with 200-300bb each

Preflop

Hero raises to £15 on the CO with QJ villain on the SB limps, BB limps. Pot £45

Flop

J Q Q

Villain bets £40, BB folds, hero calls. Pot £125

Turn

A

Check, check

River

7

Villain bets £150, Hero raises to £400, villain goes AI, almost £200 more for hero to call???

My take on this hand- pre flop standard 5× raise aimed at stealing the blinds or iso weak players on the blinds, as BTN is super knit. On the flop, villian bets the pot, at which point I put him on Ax hh, K10, 109 or KJ/J10/Q10 type of hand. On the turn both draws come in so if villlain had a drawing hand I expect him to keep firing. So when Villain checks, I check behind to induce a bet on the river. River bricks and villains makes a big bet which to me looked like air (109, Jx) or v strong hand (77, Kxhh, KQ), I dicarded AQ/JJ/AA as I feel he woud 3bet those hands pre flop 100% of the time. So I go for big reraise on the river to polorize my range and get paid off by worse. However villain reshoves, which puts me in the tough spot as I am obviously pot and I am not beating much of his perceived range.

Feels a bit too fancy.

I like to raise flop when villian donks into you. Get your money in early. If you think he is super weak, just call and bet pot on turn and river to try to get paid but raising flop usually helps

When he checks turn, we must bet. 100 for a nice round number.

On river you only lose to Royal, AA and AQ. You have underrepped your hand. If he shows up here with a winner then you can tip your hat. 200 more is simply not enough behind to fold here on the river.

First time I posted on in this forum, it was a hand similar to this where I lost and thought posters would say, "easy fold" or "how could you not see the better hand". Villain bet/3b on river is extremely strong but you are not deep enough to fold 4th nuts after checking turn. Villain can easily be overplaying a flush or a straight.

My advice: Don't check turn!

Bet. The. Turn.

As played, this is a fist pump call.

Not betting the turn is a mistake though.

As for the river, we have a boat. Only things beating is AA, AQ. KThh for the royal. Aces and AQ discounted from PF action and his tendencies. If he binked a royal...definition of cooler.

I find a call.

+1

200 to win 1125. There are a lot worse hands you could have and still call

Dont see how checking turn can make us more money than betting

Well he had K10 for a coller, so whaterver line I took, it still would have ended going AI.

For those saying bet the turn, I feel like I would be losing value from Qx, AJ, K10 hands and air if he decides to bluff. At the end of the day I am either drawing dead or have villain completely dominated

bet turn 45-55% pot

preflp and flop is perfect

river is a fine, can easily have smaller boats, same hand or a regular K high flush

you lost, nh and move on

i call because of sizing, but river 3-bet is generally going to be the nuts or near nuts.
