Hello everyone!

I noticed there were new owners so i though it might be safe to post again. Really enjoy the strategy discussions, so thanks in advance for all the responses.

Been out of the game for Covid-19 for over a year and was a little rusty. This is a deep stack game with 4 blinds, 2-3-5-10 with the 2 blind on the button and max buy in is 5K, so it plays very deep and pretty loose but there's only one target at the table and he stacked up calling with bottom pair on the river against a missed world-draw, then hit a set and called 3 streets.

The rest of the players range from above average to very good.

UTG+1 raises to 40, hero calls from middle position with

QT

Target villain from above calls from the button, blinds fold, 3 players to the flop.

UTG+1 is definitely a rec player who likes to mix it up, has deep pockets, but overall a competent player who knows the little things about poker, like how much rake we are paying on average per hour compared to the small stack games (very high compared to most games), can speak fluently about poker strategy, likes to show bluffs when he gets them through, which has been more than once over the last 2 sessions

pot (135)

T97

UTG+1 checks, hero checks, Button checks

turn (135)

2

UTG+1 bets 60. hero raises to 220, button folds UTG+1 calls

river (575)

river J

V checks, hero bets 320, v raises to 860, hero calls

Pre is questionable to me. I know people love to play QTs, but it often goes bad, and you have too many players behind. I guess if they are calling wide and almost never 3betting it's not terrible.

Once UTG+1 checks the flop, I bet. What more did you want? It's great for you.

Since you checked flop, your turn raise looks questionable. Getting raised on the river here sucks, but tough to fold. From description, I assume he could easily do this w/ the naked As.

How deep are we? You imply it's $5K+ effective but not stated.

Pre looks like a raise or fold 9 handed. Flat is pretty bad IMO unless you're unlikely to get squeezed by the next 5 or so players which seems optimistic in a loose deep stacked game. How to play this depends enormously on UTG+1, and then also table conditions, but I tend to fold. If I we had QJs in CO, that looks much more playable.

Flop I bet, we probably have the best hand and we have some nice backdoor equity on top. Don't think we should be checking anything we hit this hard in this spot.

Turn seems like a weird line given you checked flop, are you repping a flopped straight? I'm not sure, but given we're super deep I don't think we should build huge pots without hands that are nutted and we're strong but can never make the nuts here. Also don't think we can call a 3bet. So overall I just let him make the bet and expect to be good here most of the time. But I rarely get to play this deep so whatever.

River is a sigh call from me.

I agree that every street is borderline except probably betting the river. Also, that does bring up an interesting point about pre-flop in a game that's 500 BBs deep. Three betting is actually less frequent because you really can't get people to fold.

My strategy in this game is to have a very polarized 3betting range, just the very top and the very bottom of my ranges, i.e. TT and up, AQs along with low suiteds for balance. So i don't really like 3betting here pre-flop, I think folding is a little better, but folding is probably not as good as a short stack game because if it's 3bet you will often get your multiway odds and there are some good gamble spots to be had and 3 betting is actually a lot less frequent than short stack games just because it's hard to leverage fold equity

Bet flop wtf. Call turn seriously wtf!!? Riv mehhhh too big but routine bet-call. Pre is a call/3b depending on the type of whale you have and assuming deep, folding not allowed.
