As I stated in post #21 T9. Getting married to an over-pair, when you have a solid read, will remain a weak link in one's game for an unnecessary length of time unless we can develop the discipline to
fold.
I remember a hand from a few years back: I have AA & on the turn, everyone had folded to my bet except this guy in his early 70s who was OOP. The turn paired the 4 of the flop that had a flush draw.
He gave the most blatantly obvious tell from a Rec: he acted unhappy that the 4 came, and then he checks. According to my notes, I had played with him for 3 hrs & he did not have the habit of giving off this visual tell. He doesn't have much left, maybe $125 or so & I decide he really didn't like the 4 & was drawing to the flush.
So.....I bet $65 so that I charge him for the draw & now he gives off the confirming tell: "Well, I guess this is my going home hand! I'm all-in."
I was so furious at myself for discarding the obvious visual tell, that I compounded it by ignoring the verbal tell, didn't spike an ace otr & he scoops.
That hand is in my novella of horribly played hands that I review from time to time. I had all the knowledge necessary to save myself $125 & threw it in the trash.
