Unless The small blind likes to make suicidal plays (check shoving into two players who may have drastically underrepresented their hands... Unlikely...and the pf 3bettor who shows up with top pair here reasonably often), a turn bet will rarely backfire on us. If he has ak we might be calling a small river bet anyways or potentially be getting bluffed off of our and if we fOld too often. Betting small potentially, say 1/2 pot, extracts value from all of small blinds range (though it's reasonably likely he folds worse) and can more easily extract value from the primary villains range. It also prevents us from being in a slightly more difficult spot to call the Sb river bet on a blank.
Of course if we bet turn we check back/fold river if small blind checks or bets resp.
