1/2 NLHE. sorry I forgot to post in the title. I have about 108 behind and im under the gun with K K In a moderately tight game during the day, the standard opening raise is about $7. I raise to $10. Mid position villian raises to $25 and has about 250 behind. I hadnt been at the table more than about 20 minutes however he is constantly in the action, drinking and has folded to a couple re-raises before. Would you shove? re-raise? or flat call?

Welcome to the forum.

In this hand i actually think we have couple of really good options, and both is for sure +EV:

1) Regarding our stacksize its quite tempting to just ship it in preflop here, because villain will probably rare fold given that he is drunk and you dont have much behind. That would be my standard line.

2) We could also flat his 3 bet and that way undersell our hand alongside letting him do his aggro thing postflop and stacking off to us. Especially i like the flat if you had a little bit more behind, lets say 150$ instead of 108$. The reason is a shove preflop looks stronger with more behind and would generate a fold a higher percentage of the time.

OP - welcome aboard. Can you clarify your read on this guy? Is he c-betting after 3! preflop? Knowing if he will continuation bet the flop is critical to figuring out the best play.

He was folding to 3-bets. his wins were all non show downs. I was only there for about 20 minutes but he was def. where the actions was at.

Based on that read we should probably flat and c/jam any non-Ace flop.

I assume it was folded back around to you after his 3! pre?

It was folded around to me. Even with 54BB You still think flat calling is the best for this scenario? If so why?

If he can fold to 3bets, he can certainly fold to 4bets, this implies some big aces, most broadways and mid pockets may fold to a ship whereas if we flat and he catches a top pair hand or a draw, he's more committed to stacking off.

Points for shipping pre:

- Villain seems somewhat wild
- We are short, making a call more likely
- We are OOP

Points against shipping pre:

- Villain can fold
- We're short enough that stacks can go in easily in a 3bet pot
- Sounds like villain is aggressive until we play back, meaning it's more likely he will barrel light if he sense 'weakness'

I don't think either option is horrible. My impression is that flatting is probably better but this guy has to call with worse to a ship and of course, it's easier to play it that way.

If an Ace will flop 30% of the time, and we're figuring we're folding when it hits, then don't we need his preflop calling frequency to be higher than 70% when we shove to make a 4-bet the more profitable play?

btw - if you have any social skills, you should be able to push and get him to call you.

I just shove. If he's extremely wide, I'm okay with calling, but then I'm calling him down on any flop, ace or no ace.

Pop it back up to $50, there is a very low chance he is folding for $25 more. Now we have a $100 pot with $56 behind.

I'm fine with shipping or flatting, but if you flat, you must gii on any flop -- A or not.
