So I was watching a live 2/3 hand $240ish eff, where UTG opens $12 with 87dd pre and SB 3bets TsTc to $40, UTG calls.

Flop ($83): JJTdcs
Check, Check

Turn ($83): 8c
SB leads out for $55

UTG obv folded, but I'm sure he was calling $30 putting SB on AK/AQ.

SB's plan is to probably bet big OTT/OTR to get stacks in, but since he's so strong and UTG rarely has Jx here, wouldn't he want UTG to peel a street with his AK/AQ/KQ/9x/8x or whatever else possible with a 1/3 PSB?

I'd understand making this bet with Jx, but with TT, shouldn't he go for a trappier sizing rather than get greedy and lose his opponent?

At the risk of over-simplifying it, I'd say you can make the small/trappy sizing vs opponents who won't really recognize it, and tend to keep it more balanced vs. opponents you've played with who can interpret your bets and sizing

Maybe SB had some history with UTG. Maybe he was trying too hard to be balanced in a situation where it wasn't necessary. It's hard to say, but I know there are a lot of good players who bow down to GTO/balance at times when they'd do better playing exploitably

SB really needs to bet the flop here. This is one of the rare instances when you can have the board locked up, but there are still so many draws that can peel flop. Obviously, less of them will peel turn.

I don't hate the bet. He's getting value from AA-QQ, 99, Jx, KQs, and 9x...even maybe AK. Once this turn comes, I feel like a random V will continue and call any reasonable turn bet with one of these holdings, or simply fold (and not give any further action on river, barring a 66 binking a river 6, for example), so you might as well start betting.

Not betting/small betting targets a pretty small range, in contrast.

I assume that by saying "betting small vs tend to keep it more balanced", you're implying that we're unbalanced when we bet small and balanced when we bet big?
