BTN (~$200)

PF:
MP limps
BTN bets $15
Hero calls
MP calls

Flop:

BTN is all-in for ~$200
Hero ??

I have played with MP and BTN a few times before. Both are very tight players. What's the move here?

You're 47% to win against KhQx and 55% against any set. With the dead money in the pot, 47% is plenty and against Vs range, you're a favorite. Shovel chips in the pot.

you are 45% against a set.

you are not 47% vs kq - you are 38% and will tie 7% of the time.

ether way this is an absolute snap call.

I can't think of a hand we are a massive dog against. And with the $$$ already in the pot this is a no brainer.

Alright I get it. Here's how the hand played out:

Hero snap calls
MP thinks for about two minutes, calls

Turn:
T

River:
Q

BTN showed 85, MP boated up with JT

I'm still pretty new to poker and just wanted to make sure this was the right play so I know what to do next time I'm in this situation.

Don't worry, it's going to be some time before you flop an OESFD plus top pair.

None of the three players involved in this hand are tight.

On the flop you're a favorite:

Board: 9h Th Jd
Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 47.673% 46.73% 00.94% 3423218 69039.50 { QhJh }
Hand 1: 16.405% 15.74% 00.66% 1153185 48631.67 { 8h5h }
Hand 2: 35.922% 34.98% 00.94% 2562542 69043.17 { JTo }

I put this in poker stove. I must be using it wrong. I'll go back and rework that. The point is still there that even against Vs best holdings, H has equity to call.

We call flop due to dead money in pot, however the preflop call was very poor.

15 is a huge open (very common at 1-2), and calling the BB with a spec hand OOP is -EV all the way. (Note: the $2 limp has little bearing on this fact)

Can you explain a bit?

15 is a typical open in LP at this game.

Should I raise here from the bb? To what end? I'm usually x/f this hand in this position if the flop comes up dry.

If, IF, you are gonna play this hand, is better opening with a raise. It will weed out some random hands, some hands that maybe better than yours, and when the flop comes it will allow you to continue firing because most of the time people dont connect with flop. Also you are representing strong in EP although that means nothing if your image is deteriorated and in 1/2 some dont even care about position.

The calling raises PF and later c/f if you dont connect, is a huge leak and thats the reason (one of them) you have to be very selective oop.
