1-2 game at the Golden Nugget

Everyone is stacked pretty deep we have $500. No real reads on villain

Hero in UTG+2 and elects to open to $12
Villain in MP calls BB calls

Flop: 923

BB checks, Hero bets 18, Villian calls, BB folds

Turn: 7

Hero bets 38, Villian tanks and calls.

River 10

Hero bets 75? Villian calls.

Bet more on turn and b/f river as we only lose to sets and T9 combos

I like slightly more on turn but don't think half pot was bad. On the river villain (should) only have pps, sets, and 9x. He beats us with half the 9x hands, probably won't call with any pps we beat, and although unlikely based on action may have a set. I like a smaller bet around 1/3 pot as a blocker+ crying call bet. You will be calling anyways and can still extract value from a few hands so it should maximize EV either way.

I think you played it well, it does look like you were up against a set. You could go for 2 streets of value and then check/call on river.

Pot sizes on each street are helpful.

Freeze the action at the decision point (presumably the river bet). Don't indicate what V did in response to your bet; it gives us information you didn't have when you made the decision and will tend to make some responses results oriented, even if only unconsciously.

I don't think we can bet three times for value profitably. We're mostly hoping to get calls from T's or 9's, but I doubt a 9 or worse calls the river and I doubt a T called flop and turn.

Presumably our river bet was a b/f. (I think b/c would be bad.)

AP I think a small blocking bet on the river makes the most sense without reads. With reads he was passive, I think x/f is right. There aren't a lot of combos that need to bluff (maybe A4s, A5s, 54s) and passive V's aren't often going for thin value with their 9's or T's.

I would often consider checking the turn or the river. Sucks to give a free card or potentially induce a bluff, but we definitely want to keep this pot moderately sized.

I think the line was okay but you need to give more description about villian. Agreeing with the comments above I do think you get three streets of value if villian just has one pair and can never fold if his hand can improve. I think in Villians range given this bored dynamic he has some he like A9dd, 89dd, 10+, suited connectors , sets , two pair and over pairs. If he tank calls turn I definitely put him on a one pair trying to improve to the flush draw or even two pair like 910 Don’t really like the bet on the river once he calls the turn though. Maybe go smaller and try to get to show down safely ? Without inflating the pot. Villian isn’t showing signs of aggression but by the river he should have you beat if he called all the way down. But this assumption can be wrong given that I think villian can be a fun player.

Seems fine to me. River is a bit thin but I think A9, 98 like hands may call.
