1/2

Villain is a 50 yr old wg. Good winning player. Probably closer to lag than tag. Maybe a bit spewy sometimes.

Villain views hero as a winning player whose also on the lag side.

Utg limps
Folds to hero in mp who raises to 15 ($400)
Fold
Villain calls in CO
Sb calls
Utg calls

4 ways to flop ($60)

945

Check, check, hero bets 30, villain calls, fold, fold

Turn ($120)

945A

Hero checks, villain checks

River ($120)

945A5

Hero bets $44, villain raises to $115, hero?

Thoughts on all streets are welcome.

What's your hand?

Edit: I see, it's in the title -- JJ.

Dafuq is he repping here? I think I call just because his story makes no sense, and if we're re-on-reg, i want to know what he can play like this if it is a value-raise.

Villain could have anything here. After you decide to x the turn I would just go ahead and x/c the river.

The turn is mostly a brick however. It's unlikely you would c-bet this flop 4-way with AK so I would keep betting. You are ahead of all 9x besides A9 and can still get value from 67. If he flopped a set this is also the most likely street where he will spring to life. $60-75 is a good bet size.

As played I probably close my eyes and make a crying call but I'm not digging your line at all. The river bet is pointless after checking the turn.

I like how you played it. Preflop is standard. I might go a little bigger on the cbet, but half pot is fine too.

I also like the turn check. The ace is a scare card for villain. It makes it harder to get called by worse. It's also a card he might bluff. So I like a check/call on the turn.

I hate this spot on the river, but I often play it the same way. The small bet is exploitable, but that's fine at 1/2. You want to size your bet so that you can get called by villains nines, which make up a lot of his range.

Against most villains I'm folding to this river raise. At this level, most players (even good players) aren't turning nines into a bluff. So the only realistic hand that he gets here with that you're ahead of is 67s. But I think he'd size a bluff bigger. This looks a lot like value with a five or with two pair.

I didnt bet the turn because its hard to be called by worse when the ace hits. Plus, I felt very comfortable check calling the turn vs this villain, whereas if i bet and get called, im kinda just in no mans land by the river, and ill for sure have to check, and there are probably nonhands that work best as a check call on the river rather than a lead. So i check and have a weak range vs an aggressive / spewy opponent and i have to check- guess. Pretty much always have to check fold i think.

So anyways, otr, im def ahead of his range. Im looking to get value from TT and 9x. I did put floats in his range, but im expecting those to often bet turn, whether he has the A or not. And if they didnt bet turn with like AT or AQ or something, im not expecting them to raise river. Once he raises, I thought it was probably 5x or value or 9x that is bluffing.

I'm all for half pot bets on flop... Except when you flop an overpair with a hand like JJ on a board like this. Also, bet turn. Why are you giving 5-outers or more a free card when you're OOP? It makes sense if we can bluff catch a lot, but I don't think villains are likely to start bluffing when the ace turns.

Probably calling river as I view my small river bet as bluff inducing.

His value hands are 65s and 75s but that's not many combos. I tend to think he just raised because we look weak. I'm calling and he's going to have to show me whatever this is.

Very oddly played by V. I like your line and I would fold to this value raise. I can only put him on Ax and sets. Can't wait to see results.
