Meh funny hand I need to go over... that I had today. I think I played it really poorly but wanna hear thoughts. I’m playing supper laggy at 1-2 and have an agg image. I have prolly 350-400 to start hand.

Main villian opens utg+2 or 3 to 11. He hasn’t done anything crazy and is a standard tag that seems like a solid player. I’m one off the button with jj and 3bet to 33 with jj. Ep flats and we see a flop of 8-9-q Rainbow. Villian checks and I lead for 40. He thinks for 10 seconds and rips 208 in. It is 168 back to me and I rank for a while. He says you have jj? He then says you have 8 outs. I think for a while about the #s and my outs and what his range is. I kinda spazz with anxiety and fold after 2 min in the tank. He tables jj and I lose pot that I should chop. Are we ever calling here?

I didn’t have much play with villian..... he was young and looked competent. Didn’t really know his range but I would guess a lot of kq/aq and two pairs, draws etc? Thinking about hand, I felt he was weight toward two pairs and q’s. Are we ever supposed to call here due to math? I just didn’t see how we could be ahead here. I feel jj was prolly bottom of his shove range here so I shouldn’t really worry but yea idk? Maybe Cbet smaller or check back flop? Thanks for any thoughts.

HU and IP I'd check this back a fair amount in a 3! Pot. There really shouldn't be too much in his range to get value from on this board. Betting to deny equity from smaller pairs and some Ax hands is fine too, but there aren't too many broadway combos he can have here that you're ahead of and want to deny equity to. If you're betting this flop then I think it's a clear bet/fold on this board. I think you played the hand fine, and you just tap the table and give V credit on his shove, even though I think Vs shove is pretty bad. Maybe your LAG image induced this c/r shove by V.

Wait how are you leading when you are in position and you were the 3 bettor preflop? Just x flop, anything else is bad.

This is like the Platonic ideal of a flop you should check with JJ.

I was ip and opponent checked flop. I Cbet bc I find at 1-2 most players will not jam in this spot and play straight up. When I 3 bet I’m prolly cbetting like 90% of the time regardless of flop but I prolly should find a check back in this spot.

I just find we get a ton of folds here when we c bet after showing a lot of strength pre. In 5 hours of play, there may have been a total of 5 3 bets maybe pre? It was a pretty tight game. I think checking back to try and realize equity is prolly ideal. I honestly thought at worst he was going to call and not jam on me.

You get a ton of folds because you're winning.

^ This.

Nobody folds to me when I have lost a few hands, suckouts or otherwise.

Like sharks smelling blood in the water.

I get a lot of folds after winning a hand or two, best time to steal or squeeze is when Villains think we are on a small heater.

No, I meant they're folding because JJ is good.

For what it's worth, "you have 8 outs" is a pretty obvious lie, since you literally never have 8 outs. Since he told this lie to try to get you to believe you were behind, that would be enough to get me to call if I thought it was otherwise a close decision.

First thing that came to mind was when two guys at my table once were going at it and eventually got it all in on an all low board.
After the jammer got called, he asked the caller if he had Jacks.
The caller showed Jacks and the jammer had Queens.
Being the fish that I am , I guess, I thought to myself,"wow, what a read by this guy".
Took me a while to realize that he just guessed the only hand he could beat.
I thought for sure your villain, after that speech, was going to flip over Queens.
