A couple o things happened with blackjack
1. facial recognition - John C. and I were hanging out in the foxwoods parking garage shootin the breeze. We then roll into the casino to put down a play. I get tresspassed before I even hit the entrance (we enter seperately) I later get an update in the griffin book as being an affilliate of him
2. The digital age - Back before digital cameras and the interwebz when they were not sure if u were legit action every thing would be done by fax. I remember putting down a play in the chicago area back in the 90s and they did not know who we were and they were receiving faxes of pictures that were many generations old and the pictures could have been of just about anyone - they were basically black and white smudges. I remember laughing at how inept they were. Now if they have any question of your action is legit they snap a digital shot and have an answer lickity split
3. Action tolerance. I have played in every little shythole in north america but vegas was our bread and butter. We pounded them relentlessly for years with thousands upon thousands of man hours. The pendulum swung and the games got progressively worse
4. Trust/fear/insanity/ etc The blackjack world is quite small. We had heard through the grapevine a former disgruntled player had sold out the WHOLE team to griffin (detective agency who monitors cheats and high stakes players etc) for a very small price. This is a cash biz and we kept a lot of dough around. If some one was willing to do that what about tipping off bad guys as to where we live etc. After this happened (we found this out during a mass assault on vegas) Me and another player took the bankroll of north of 700k to an undisclosed location and were allocating player money from this duffle bag)
all of this forced our hands and several of us who were winning poker players simply switched over. Three of my former teammates are bracelet winners. One is widely considered the best in the biz at his chosen game in cash. So I was very lucky in that I was associating with people who were highly skilled at poker from the getgo...and back then you could suck (which i did) and still win tons o cash
