I mucked a chop by mistake in a 500$ pot I mucked a chop by mistake in a 500$ pot

On my last session I mucked my cards on a 500$ pot and I only realized what I've done like 2 minutes after the hand.
We both had a 6 high strait on a 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, board, he had 8 5 and I had a 5.
In my mind I thought he had the nut strait.
After that I just left because I felt like **** and I was still up and didn't want to steam off the rest of my profit.
I've been living in vegas for 4 years playing 1-2 and 2-5 and I have to say I haven't seen this too much, maybe twice from real armatures.
Has anybody here ever done something like that??

Consider it tuition. Seriously, just chalk it up to experience. I did this several years ago and it really tilted me. Haven't done it since.

Don't feel too bad -- we've all mistakenly lit money on fire before...whether it's misclicking online or misreading a situation like this live.

Kind of a funny story, a few years ago during the series a friend of mine was playing 5/10 at Venetian and called an opponents all in on 66xxx with A6. Turned out the other guy was bluffing, and after making the call my friend opened his hand but inexplicably through his cards face down into the muck while his opponent still had his cards. The pot was over 4k and the floor (correctly) ruled that my friend essentially folded and awarded the other guy the pot. At least you didn't do that

In a home game some years ago, I got to showdown with pocket aces on a Queen high, paired board. Villain flips his cards up and says "Two Pair". I, seeing his queen, and having only one pair of aces, just chucked my cards in the muck. It wasn't until we were half way through the next hand when I realized what I'd done. Hilarity (at my expense) ensued. The next week, a couple of my "friends" showed up in T-Shirts that read "Fold Pocket Aces". It wasn't a ton of money, but it was a big pot for the game. I've never made the same mistake again. Congratulations - you've just improved your game a little bit.

I'll be that guy......

You've been playing for 4 years and mucked a winner? Sorry but you should be paying more attention or just table your hand. I know mistakes happen but if you're doing this for a living (unclear in your OP) you can't make those mistakes. Try and figure out why you did it and don't do it again. Tired? Drunk? High? Just not paying attention?

I do think you made a great decision to get up though and not play tilted. That is something that most people wouldn't have done.

Can't say I've ever done that in holdem. Mucked a 3-way chop in Omaha due to a combination of poorly reading my hand and thinking a shorty with a better hand was in for the whole pot. Meh.

At least this is a lesson you'll never forget.

Welcome to the forum, OP. I'm sorry for your pain, but this isn't the correct forum for this. It belongs in Brags, Beats and Variance (BBV). We discuss strategy in this forum.

Looking forward to your participation in the strategy, and I hope the BBV blues stay away.
