Funny spot in a hand 1/3 vs a mid 30s WG in on vacation, is a good player and capable of making some moves, but is there mostly just to mix it up and enjoy himself. This is degen hours right at the end of my session, about 3 am. The table has played very nitty, and V has been drinking a bit so he throws a blind raise to $15 UTG saying how we need to stir it up some. Folds to H who says he’ll gamble with him and calls blind. Flop comes Jc6c2x and villain fires in $20 blind. I say I might have to look at my cards this time. He says he’ll make me a deal, if I call blind we’ll both check the turn and then look at our hands on the River. I honestly hate playing against a blind range and I’m ready to head home, so I take the deal knowing I have position to read his action on the river.

Turn/river come: 9c3x (pot $70)

Villain checks his hand, thinks a second and puts out $40.

Hero looks down at Js7c and....

Is this a raise given how ridiculous this hand played? Or just call?

Raise. What hand is villain honestly not going to bet here?

Wrong question. The question is what hands he'll call if you raise.

I agree this should easily be a raise in a vacuum, but OP's image is important here. Most people are going to hugely underbluff in this spot, so if OP has a nitty image he might not be able to raise this, as it will be perceived as strong.

I don’t hate just calling here, but I think I’d probably raise to 110.
You’re just so far ahead of a blind range here with top pair.
I agree with ChrisV, but V has been drinking and initiated this situation.
I don’t think he’ll be thinking about your image too much here cuz you gambled it up with him like he was hoping for.
If he shoves it’s a fold though, I don’t think he’ll shove with a worse hand.
I just think he’ll call with all kinds of hands you beat because of the nature of the way the hand was played.
If you’re behind, it’s pretty unlucky, unless he peeked and pulled a gross angle shot on ya.

I had a TAG image, not nitty was probably the second most active at the table behind him, though that’s not saying much. Also agree in a vacuum it’s a raise but tbh I was worried about getting blown off a hand way up in my range in this spot but that is not very strong overall, could definitely see him leveling himself into a bluff re-raise. He wasn’t an idiot by any stretch. I settled on calling but feel like I may have missed value

I would probably just call a reraise since he isn't going to value reraise anything short of a flush and I'm prepared to gamble in this spot that he doesn't have one (it's like a 3.6% chance).

Raising for value here would be too thin unless we know he can call with worse.

I might explo-minraise to 80 and fold to any reraise.

The thing I don’t like about min-raising here is that you’re opening yourself up to the possibility of getting blown off your hand for only $40. So you’re risking losing 70+40+our 80 min-raise=$190 for only $40 extra value. It seems way less worth it to me than $70-80 on top when I think his call % doesn’t change drastically and his reraise bluff % probably goes down significantly.

Asking for playing advice in a hand where you were jackassing around by playing blind is a catagory mistake.

Call him, have a laugh about who won, pick up your chips and go home.

Maybe poker wouldn't be so boring for recs if more people did this. Play hands blind until river, bomb pots, all in blind, etc. We want gamblers to play but then own them with 1/3 range bets and wonder why games are getting tough. Variations to nlhe should be welcomed as a chance to get more edge with unexplored strategy and occasionally make fools of ourselves.

Don't think the beginning of Venice's statement is important, but I totally agree with the above!

even though we are likely good I like just calling here as well , maybe a min-raise is okay but who knows.. the fact that you are both blind means that he might just come over the top with some garbage .. but all depends on the V
