I butcher a big 3-bet pot. I butcher a big 3-bet pot.

1/2NL, playing 8 handed.

I debated making this a PAHWM thread, but figured I would just lay out all the action up to the river. I feel like just about every street could have been played differently except maybe preflop. If they gave olympic medals for preflop play, I would've taken home the silver last night.

V in this hand is a late 30's guy. He doesn't have a players card, so not a reg, but he seems to have at least some clue what he's doing. He hasn't been at the table long but is pretty active playing in lots of pots. I hesitate to say LAG, but its close. He bought in for a weird amount, around $320ish. In the previous orbit he raised to 6 UTG, and I flatted OTB with AQo. Flop came KKJ with 2 hearts. He checked, I bet 7, he called. Turn was an offsuit T, check/bet 20/call. River was the Ace of hearts and he donked 20. I called and he said "I missed" and tabled T9s.

Hero is a mid 30's guy. My image may be a tad on the loose side, as I have also been fairly active at this table.

Hero is in the SB with AK. Both me and V start the hand with around $400.

V makes it $7 UTG+1. 2 fishy players call. I 3! out of the SB to $40. V calls, everyone else folds.

Flop ($89)QJ4.

I elect to c-bet $50. I'm not sure if it's a great c-betting board or not in this spot, as this may have been mistake #1. 2 overs + a gutter, but my overs have lots of potential RIO. V calls.

Turn($189)QJ4K

For some reason I go into pot control mode and check. I could go either way on this one. The board is really really wet so I should be protecting my equity against his strong draws, but I don't necessarily think I'm crushing any of his range here unless he is on pure air. V bets $80. I consider folding, but figure 3:1 with some outs, good SDV, and against this V, I elect to see one more card.

River($349)QJ4K6:d iamond:

I'm not overly concerned by the 3rd diamond, but it doesn't help. I'm sitting on TPTK in a massive 3 bet pot that seems to have gotten out of hand. I check again. V bets $145.

FWIW I don't think the river is necessarily the most interesting street here or the one where I am most lost, but I wanted to lay the whole hand out up to this point.

I like pre, don’t really love the cbet, don’t like the turn at all (you’re building a huge pot in a very marginal spot) and unfortunately probably have to fold the river. I don’t mind a river call because i’d Guess it’s about neutral EV.

Pre is good. Flop I like a cbet, & even SPR is close enough to x/jam vs aggro guy, etc. X/giving up or x/calling flop seem not the best. Turn & River I prefer x/c line vs b/f or b/c. Just don't think we can fold if he plays a bit bad aggressive in not good spots.

Not sure why you think this hand is butchered? Nh, wp, imo.
The flop cbet is the only decision that is marginal, but i think we fold out enough underpairs to make it work.

I'm folding river, pretty sure he doesn't have enough missed combo's to combat all the 2 pairs and straights. But yeah, it does seem close vs this villain.

Think hand is played fine, maybe more on the flop to max FE vs. TT-.

I'd fold river. Called the previous hand, C/C turn this hand , so logically speaking V should > AK. Might call based on live read.
