A Humbling Month A Humbling Month

04-23-2018 , 12:10 PM
Well, after starting off the year running very well and playing well, I have had a very humbling month in April. Zero winning sessions, many poor decisions, $ lost due to tilt, and running much closer to normal expectation, perhaps even a bit below (but I am not blaming that...I played very poorly and that was the biggest reason for my losses).

I write this because I think some of what Petrucci and others said to me a month ago is very likely true and prescient....I was/am suffering from a good level of hubris with respect to my results and play. Sure enough, the game taught me a valuable lesson in April that I will hopefully remember going forward and that lesson is this:

Never confuse the luck that goes into winning poker as your skill or ability to outplay your opponents. If you do, you may become complacent, lazy, or distracted in such a way that the certain downswing that is sure to come will potentially be longer and deeper than it otherwise might be.

Thanks to those wiser than me who tried to reign me in.
