How many buy-ins do you bring? How many buy-ins do you bring?

I play a 2/2/3, $200 max NL game three days a week and bring 2.5-3 BIs each session. I doubt many would suggest I bring less but do any of you think this is too little? My average session is 6-8 hours if it makes a difference.

Thanks,

New Dude

2 or 2.5 buyins usually. If I get stacked 2x, I have no desire to keep playing mentally usually, I just go lie on the ground and hate my life for a few hours or so.

Yeah, I make my stop loss at $600, but I hopefully never get close. Did last week and it felt like crap. Should stop halfway through 2nd buyin because you probably aren't playing your best game when you start losing money. You start calling ATC just hoping to get lucky and piss away money - or at least I do. I have more than two buyins in my pocket right now ... and I'll be going out in a couple of hours. But I won't lose that because I will stop if I'm not playing well.

The key is to play well, even playing ATC in the right situations. Pick your spots. I'm not afraid to get it all in on a big draw against some stations and if I hit I have a big night and lose, I rebuy and win my money back.

Some famous poker pros (Eskimo Clark, Sam Grizzle) do well without bringing any buy-ins

This.

It all comes down to how well you play when you're stuck.

If you can play the same way when you are down 3 buy ins as when you first buy in, then feel free to bring as many as you want.

Most, including myself, play much worse when we get stacked 2 or 3 times. Many will advocate "staying if it's a good game, ignore the coolers and bad beats," but again, that assumes you are still able to play something close to your A-game, and for most low stakes players (or maybe most players at any stakes), that is not possible after you get stacked a few times.

4.

Its not often I drop more than 2 buy-ins.

I need a big wad of money psychologically to be able to play correct poker.

I play hours not results. Unless I'm clearly tilted or surrounded by grinders in which case I leave.

I like that you are playing 6-8 hour sessions. You will clearly benefit from knowing the table.

My average is 2bi. I'm supposed to have a rule where i never lose more than 2bi. Ironically, it's only happened when I was v drunk.

Bankroll management is a tough mofo sometimes. Especially when you heart the sauce.

4 - 5.

It takes me an hour on the tube to get to the casino and I usually gte there in the evening and play til 6 am. I do not want to get 2 bad beats or coolers in 1st hour and then go home, especially whne table is juicy.

just bring your entire roll. nobody with fcuk with you when you pull out a stack of 6k in twenty's. better yet, make it in 1-dollar-bills and keep it in a duffle bag that's handcuffed to your wrist at the table.

and try not to get mugged

2x BIs for me. If I go through 2 in a session, thats my cap, I'm done. Mentally I'm not where I should be. I then make the drive of shame home, mentally recapping the session and making notes on what happened, what I could have done better, what reads I missed, or if the math would have held. Variance is cold slap in the face.

LOL, this is hilarious, I'm try this.

2.5-3 buys ins. I've once lost 4 BI, never again. Its a disgusting feeling, especially in a game that I knew I could beat, 3rd and especially 4th buy in were tilting frustrated give aways. Had I not had that 4th BI I might have been logical or not want to leave broke and salvaged the 3rd one.

(This is me, on tilt)

I bring 2. Of course I have my debit card with me but that is not an option.

If I lose my 2 BI on a ****ty night then I use discipline and leave. I am very strict about it because I lose my A game because of tilt.
