Yes, I advocate pot control at all times with any overpair including AA and TPTK. My pot control actions are actually very simple. I either bet the flop like C/B and if called I will check the turn or check the flop and if you check I bet the turn. Very simple, I don’t need to do nothing else even if I know you may sometime floating in position and take the pot away from me on the turn. I do that too when in position to you. So, it’s not a big deal. We’re talking here about small pots being exchanged between me and opponent. I know I may be leaving some money on the table against some opponents but I get that money back from them many times over. See, if the guy from my left is taking the lead when I pot control, every time, then I know what he is doing. So, that’s fine because I am going to set him up to play a pot with me when he is in the blinds and I make a raise from the C/O to look like a steal raise against his blind and do that with AA,KK,AK. In NL with 200bb stack I put a target on some players and look to play for stacks against them.
By the way, using pot control with overpair and TPTK is nothing spectacular. I even use pot control with sets too. For example, I’ve got 10
10
and the flop comes down like Q
J
10
. I use pot control here too. Actually, in this instance I have a small hand for the situation. The value of a hand is not the actual holding you’ve got like “Ok, I’ve got a set so I have a big hand and bet big, ..etc.. etc “ NO, Is the entire situation that develops in front of you that determine if your hand is suitable to play a big pot or a small pot. Yes, I have a set and yes a set is a big hand in abstract but my set in this situation is a small hand and I will pot control and if you want to take the pot away from me I will let you have it this time because I’m not going to play for stacks with that board.
Anyway, all this special situation happens so rare that the impact on my bottom line is probably small. I don’t know, but from my years of experience I can tell you that when you play for a living and use your bankroll as a tool to generate income and pay your bills you’ve got to play different than if you come to Vegas and play 3-4 days for entertainment and then go back to your job and make up the loss with your next pay check. I don’t have a pay check if I don’t manage to win. I’m not saying my bankroll is small. NO, is not small at all. I have around 20,000bb that is the equivalent of 100 buy-ins deep stack of 200BB in my roll that generates about on average 15bb per hour. I’m serious. I’m not bull*****
You may say: “Why don’t you move up?” Well, I take out money from winnings to live on, so I need to maintain a healthy roll at all times. I don’t have other source of income. My office is the Vegas poker rooms.
So, here I am
