How do you play 9/10? How do you play 9/10?

I often lose with top pair when I have 9 and 10.
Even if I am on the button with top pair and everyone checks, I can never bet the turn.

Loss history:
Someone has 9J or better
Someone catches straight, two pair, or flush
Someone catches over an overcard
Someone bluff me out. (I am a tight/aggressive player)

I feel like straight draw and two pair is the only good use for 9/10 and below.

Not sure I see a question in the post, but judging from the title... I'm just spitballing here but maybe stop trying to get value from top pair when you have T9. There needs to be a specific post flop skillset that has to be developed before you actively pursue lines like that.

Yeah if you are going to play T9, only play the suited ones and raise from CO/BTN. Any earlier is probably burning money. You're probably better off in the long run not calling raises with it. It's not that great of a hand to be honest.

I lead out flop if it's top pair and then cool it fast from there without a draw.

wasn't aware tight agro players ; played diaper hands like 9 10 and then to top it off ; play them passively

910s is a great hand to open from the HJ/CO/Button.

Upswing says 98s is a open from UTG on a soft table. However if your table is 3betting alot I would not open anything close to 98s/910s from EP.

If your table is passive and rarely raises preflop you can limp it from any position.

2+2 hates limping but it's only hate worthy if your limp calling raises with speculative hands like 910 OOP. If it is limping through often don't be afraid to nutmine with really any two cards as long as the players are willing to pay you off when you hit it.

It's typically a 1-2 street of value hand with only 1 pair and proceed cautiously with top pair with this hand. With the bets going in mostly on flop/turn. Also take note of the flop symmetry when sizing your bet.

If the flop is 10s 8c 5c. This would be a great flop to bet for value with 109. There are many draws and worse hands that can call you.

However if the flop is 10s 5c 3h. You would want to size down in your bet. There isn't much that can call you on this flop other then better 10s and gutshots(players at my casino would never fold a 5 or 3 here as well though yours may vary.)

Avoid this hand if you are under 150 bb's deep as it is better played when deep. Most of your EV from this hand will come when you make your straight/flush.

What is HJ/CO?

TY for the advice. I never considered much difference between 10/8/5 vs 10/5/3. Now I can see it is very different.

Suited connectors and small pocket pairs are my exception.
I guess I am tight aggro with premium hands only?
I rarely play suited connectors only if there are already 4+ callers and I can limp in.

And I have a question of my own about the same post: what is flop symmetry? I've never heard that particular term before and a Google search of "poker flop symmetry" didn't turn up anything useful.

From context of your post though, it sounds like the same meaning as "flop texture?"

At the stage of your game at the moment, you want to play T9 passively. That means calling with it in late position at a table that is unlikely to see a raise pf with effective stacks at 70 BB or better. Fold it otherwise.

As you get better, (figure out how to win a hand without a made hand against your villains), you can open up where and how you play it.
