A high river call weak? A high river call weak?

2/3 game

Utg1 limp I make it 16 with AQo on MP, SB calls UTG1 calls. Eff stacks 500.

Flop 622 sb checks utg1 bets 20 I call sb folds

Turn 6 check check

River 3 utg bets 20 I call.

Thoughts?

There's probably a lotta different ways to play AQo; we got an okish preflop result.

Unless our plan is to get tricky and get this guy off a pair on later streets (what is our plan?), I fold to the donk bet. There's no draws he could be semi-bluffing. He's most likely just got a pair and is protecting / seeing where he's at. We're not getting good odds to chase our overcards, of which we have low IO (are we going to make much when an A/Q comes on the turn vs his 77?) and we have poor RIO (against hands like A6 and 2x). It's ok to give up when we have nothing, especially in small pots.

I also check back the turn.

Even though we're getting decent odds on the river, I don't like the call. He'd have to be betting complete air on the flop plus some of his gutshots just improved to a straight/bigger two pair. In general, you really need some pretty good reasons to make hero calls with A high (some busted draws + against a known bluffer + we've shown some extreme weakness which raising preflop and calling the flop ain't).

I'm fine with this. Result didn't surprise me but you never know, and you have a reasonable hand for this board on the river.

Flop call is fine of course, pretty standard. The turn check by him leads me to put him on either 6x, 2x, or another small pair 33-55 that just got scared. On the river, I fold or raise, I never expect to be good with A high. The problem with a raise, is that he has quite a few combos of 6x and 2x, definitely too many for me to think a raise is profitable. The line he took screams 6 to me.

HU I wouldn't hate the flop call as much. The more multiway it goes (we're 3way here), the more this is a pretty easy fold as it's unlikely anyone is betting worse air (or at the very least we better have a plan to get someone off a pair if we don't improve).
