Re: Help! How to play top pair and two pair against a LAG?

Also sometimes a bad player can't resist gambling with AQs/AJs/KQs. Just 1-combo of each in addition to QQ+ gives you 38% equity.

Add in Villain's own AK and JJ to his calling range and you're at 43% equity even when your bluff gets called.

Of course by shoving AK in spots like this you become less tight and either villains have to call you wider of lose more money to your bluff raises - you win either way but once they call you wider you also win extra when you have QQ+ yourself.

Re: Help! How to play top pair and two pair against a LAG?

hand 1 you donk bet turn for 15% pot after he raised your flop bet? dont do that. just x/c turn and x/c river. i saw results but i expect KT to be in his range quite a bit as well as some QJ

hand 2 should be an easy shove pre

Also the consensus is clearly to shove AK preflop in Hand 2. If I do that though aren’t I at risk of losing my whole stack the majority of times I get called because won’t the only callers be coin flips like JJ QQ or hands which dominate me AA KK? My table image is usually tight.
Just do some sleuthing around for basic NL books that target live low limit NL. They'll all offer some fundamentals and then some different ideas, some of which may apply to your game and some won't. But for ~$20 each or so, all books are a complete steal even if you only get like just 2 good ideas out of each one.

Benefits to shoving the AK:

- we put some hands that are doing just fine against us to a horrible decision where they'll often make a big mistake (ex: 77 will fold here a lot, but unknowingly to them that would be a big mistake on their part)
- we sometimes get called by hands we're dominating (ex: getting it in vs AQ is printing money, as is getting it in versus someones fave hand like T8sooted)
- the larger the dead money in the pot the more likely we become +EV even being on the bad side of a flip; for example, if we're up against TT we're about a 57:43 dog, but if we're shoving for $220 and there's also $60 of dead money worth of limps/calls in the pot that fold, then we're in breakevenish territory; and if that TT folds just 10% of the time, we're printing money again
- with our blockers, we rarely run into the only 2 hands we don't want to run into (unlucky in this case, that's poker, but we still even win in those cases some of the time)

Thanks.

So I’m thinking through scenarios now preflop to assess where I should shove.

Chris V said to shove at least 77+, AT+, KQ against a LAG here.

What if I was up against a TAG? What range should I be shoving when there’s a a raise ahead of me by a TAG that’s above the 10/15% of my stack that Chris V referred to?

Re: Help! How to play top pair and two pair against a LAG?

If a normally tight and conservative player is opening 15% of his stack it means something funny is going on with the table and the TAG is adjusting to exploit the table dynamic.

As such there is no rigid counter strategy. The correct range to defend with will depend on the opener's range. You'll only be able to make an educated guess as to what that is if you understand the opener and how he perceives the table dynamic and what it is he's likely doing to exploit it.

It all depends.

I find the term "printing money" confusing. I don't think I'd use that when thinking about getting it all in with AKo vs T8s.

What does "printing money" mean, exactly?
