help with flush vs set (monsters under bed?) help with flush vs set (monsters under bed?)

Hey guys,

First forum let me know if I'm not making sense or using the right vernacular.

1/2 NL 9 player full ring

Hero picks up K8c on the button
folds over to MP3 raises 2xb
cut off calls
hero calls
both blinds fold

flop comes ($14) K 9 10 2 clubs

MP3 bets 7
cut off raises to 25
Hero calls
MP3 folds

Turn ($70) 4c

cut off checks
hero checks behind

River ($70) 5h

Cut off bets 34 into 70
hero calls 34

Should hero have raised here? what hands would he be trying to get value from worse flush perhaps, a set I don't think is paying. Now what if hero gets re-raised, Hero only loses to one hand Axc but isn't that the only hand that could raise in this spot? Villian showed down for set of 9s. Hero scoops played right? or monsters under the bed?

you could play that to get allin on the flop. and certainly hard on the turn.

but should fold pre flop with that hand to the raise.

Fold pre to a $4 raise when we're 130BB effective with a suited king on the button?

Yo OP, 3-bet to $30 pre and collect the dead money in the pot. EZ game.

Also, calling pre isn't terrible as we can steal the pot often when checked too and also make big hands (like the one you made) against terrible players post flop who will pay you off with worse.

Probably should fold preflop. It's a small raise but K8s won't flop well enough often enough to be profitable without a strong handle on the situation. This is the sort of hand an experienced player can make work but if your asking this question you probably don't have enough experience.

Flop call is marginal once the original bet is raised. Your probably only get to see one card and might have trouble making enough to justify the call.

Turn is obvious bet once villain checks. With specific history with this villain it may be best to check sometimes but in general bet.

River is a raise once you check turn except against the tightest of opponents. There are not a lot of hands that will pay you off but only one hand that beats you so it will be profitable against most opponents.

River would be a much different situation if you had bet turn, villain calls and then villain bets into you on river. At that point it's hard to see any worse hands paying you off.

yes fold pre flop and the bigger your stack the worse it is for you, as you dont want to be put in a spot for a big stack with a hand that cant really make the nuts.

Preflop is totally fine.

You need to bet the turn. 30-35 is fine.

As played, the river is a raise.

I think it’s a great spot for a small value raise. Something like $100 total get calls from any 2 pair+

If you cant get value when you have the second nuts yes preflop should be a fold

Thanks all,

Im seeing a lot of folds and don't folds from the button with k8s pre. I would never had played at all out of position on the raisers, and folding to his raise on the flop is the best. I'm certainly going to face a bet on the turn if I miss my club which makes the math terrible for me. Suckout!

a raise and a call to you with k8. that isnt a good call. in fact very few hands warrant a call and the rest would be a raise.
