SB (£200) - TAG, always very aggressive once he has made a hand, took down a big pot with two pair AK. 30 mins before this hand he called 10bb with 34o, flopped trip and turn boat against my PP and I paid him off thinking he was bluffing.
CO (£250) - LAG, call / raise with any two card, willing to take on all in raise with bottom pair no kicker.
BTN (Hero) (£180) - After losing to SB with that hand, just reloaded 150bb
I was dealt K T
UTG folded, MP folded, MP+1 opened 4bb, MP+2 folded , CO called, BTN (HERO) called, SB called, BB folded
Pot is now £17
Flop Q, J, 9
MP+1 checked, MP+2 checked, CO checked, BTN (HERO) bet £7, SB called, MP+1 folded, MP+2 folded, CO called
Pot is now £38
Turn 7
CO bet £16, HERO??? I was torn between calling/ raising - Either build the pot with SB in or raise pot?
Spoiler:
As played I called, SB called, pot is now £86
River is a J, SB checked, CO checked, I checked and took down the pot against Qx and Jx. Should I have bet this river?
Let me get this straight, you have one or more people in the pot who might go off and one of them might get it in with bottom pair. You flop the nuts and bet 7 into 17? That had to be terrible.
You can bet that flop pretty hard 5 ways, that flop smacks the typical preflop calling ranges. I'd raise turn as the 7 hits the straight drawing ranges and makes them want to call more if they have a decent piece of the board now. Wanna get as much as you can in now.
I'd rather bet 25 than 7 otf. It would be a minimum of 12 tho, probably more. Turn is a raise as played, and river as played is a bet. Really poorly played hand.
In this situation, you have to raise the turn so you can get all-in by the river.
If you just call the turn (and nobody else does), there will be £70 in the pot with £150 behind.
You should raise the turn to about £50 more (slightly less than 3/4 pot bet). Then if the villain calls, there will be £170 in the pot and you will only have £100 behind, so you can go all-in on the river.
Spoiler:
Also, unless you think someone is lying in wait to check-raise you, bet the river. Nothing in the action of this hand suggests your straight isn't still good.
Bet more in the flop. No one will give you credit for the nuts. Turn. Raise to 50-55. Bet river
You should've planned out your betting on the flop so that stacks could get in on the river.
No one will give him credit for the nuts?! On that f-ed up board?! Anyway, he doesn't have to have the nuts to have TP crushed and two pair in major trouble, to say nothing of a bluff. If CO wants to run with the ball, I say let 'im! He's already indicated that he likes his hand and it's only right that we allow him the opportunity to show us how much.
Raise turn, b/f a huge reraise on river. Some fish think two pair is the nuts, some are going to be terrified of sets. You must raise turn to set up river shove and if villain has the boat good for him.
What people think the downside of calling is I cannot begin to imagine. SB calls and CO bets the river again maybe. Problem?
The problem is MAYBE. Lets build the pot to stack the top of our opponents range on the river AND to get value from pair plus draws they wont fold OTT, but will if unimproved OTR.
There are a lot of pair plus SDs that will call the turn and not the river if they brick. JT, QT, T9, Q8, J8, 98. Any of those not involving the the 9 might have a club draw too. By flatting OTT we lose value OTR when those hands are unimproved 1 pair.
If any of the Vs have T8 we are stacking them unless a your calling scares them on a board change river.
when you have a monster hand (especially the nuts), the goal should be to stack someone who also has a strong hand, not to win little pots vs. top pair or worse.
Raise. Find a way to get all in. If people are folding too often when you have the nuts, then that's the signal to start raising flush draws, gut shots, and air.
Thanks for all the input, I realise I need to improve and I have missed this opportunity to potentially stack 2 aggressive players, will not let them get away with it next time.
I have posted another KT hand recently, please also take a look.
Bet more in the flop. No one will give you credit for the nuts. Turn. Raise to 50-55. Bet river
You should've planned out your betting on the flop so that stacks could get in on the river.
Is there a quick guidance of stack to pot ratio I can smoothly get all my stack in the middle over flop, turn and river? I don't want to tank too much to let people think I have the nuts.
