Ok, new around here, but I was playing in a game and running fairly well. It was a $3 or more on the button game and a few people had more than a grand in from of them. So, I'm in the Lojack with Ah9d. One person has limped the $5 on the button. I make it $20. Dealer and limper call. Flop Q 3 2 rainbow. Checks around quickly. Turn is a J of clubs. Putting 2 clubs on the board. Again checks around quickly. The river is an offsuit 8. Checks to the dealer who gets $80 and it just didnt make sense to me. Dont think he would do this with a 2,3 or 8 and he would have bet the flop or turn with a Q or J... so I think for a minute or so and call with my ace high and he shows 7c5c. So I take it down. About 6 hands later, I am in the cutoff. Have about $1400 in front of me. $3 on the button and it makes it $25 to go. Utg+1 who is they guy from the previous hand calls. A mp player calls. I looks down at Jd3d which isn't a hand I would play normally, but like I said. I was running good and I had position. I call. Button folds. 4 ways to the flop of Ac Jc 5d. Original raiser bets $50. Utg+1 calls. Mp folds. I call. Getting 4-1. Turn is the 3c which gives me 2 pair but brings 3 to the flush out there. Utg bets $50 again. Utg+1 calls again. I raise it to $200. Utg folds and utg+1 smooth calls. When he does this, I think he has to have AJ, so I'm checking the river unless it's a 3. River is a brick and he open shoves for $700. I snap fold my Jd3d face up and say I'll fold my 2 pair. He didnt show. I felt 100% at the time that I made a good lay down. But after I told my buddy who plays a lot more than me about the hand. He said he would have called because he wouldn't have done that with a better hand. I'm still 75% sure I had the worst hand, but I would like to know what y'all would have done in this situation...

I've never played in a game like this and have no idea what typical player tendencies are but flatting J3s feels really bad. If you do want to loosen up, I prefer a 3bet.

As played, I think the turn raise is ambitious. I would rather flat. I don't see villain ever calling your raise with a worse hand, so after he calls and jams the river, yeah you're almost surely beat, so it's a no-brainer fold. As a sidenote, I highly doubt he would make such an aggressive play with AJ. It's a lot more likely that he has a made flush.

With all due respect to your buddy, I don't think he knows what he's talking about. You could easily have raised the turn with a flush, so when villain jams river, he's repping a flush, and while he could be bluffing, you're just not strong enough to call.

Thank you for your response... I was reraising quite a bit and felt a 3 bet here would not have gotten through. I do see your point though. My guess is he had a smaller flush. 10 high or lower and smoothed on the turn in case another club came off, he can check the river, but when the board bricks out, he shoves.... I told the guy after the hand, I dont think you were bluffing, but if you were, it was one helluva bluff
