Grunch. Tell her to play 2NL on Pokerstars. Teach her how aggressive poker is winning poker and how she should be generally raising preflop more than calling raises and almost never limping. Teach her the importance of position and how she should be opening more hands in late position than in early position.

500 years from now, "Super System" will still be an excellent first book for someone just learning NLHE. Remove from shelf, dust off, and lend to her.

The books and playing thousands of hands online seems like a decent idea. Sometimes it's best to just dive in. Have her sweat a live session with you and maybe explain things where you can. It may be a way to prep her for when she is actually playing. The freeze out idea is good, playing in a friendly environment where you can explain things.

If she is smart the basics will come some what quickly. The sooner she has some cards in her hand and she drags her first pot its all over.
