NWI NL 1/2
Hero is at a full ring table. This is the second orbit since I got there. Hero at $190 or so.
Villain is about 75 years old, not an OMC playstyle more of an OMOuzo/drunk type of player. He calls and calls. He's played about 10 hands since I got there. Another older fellow next to me refers to him as "out of it." I don't really know the guy before this session though.
Hero is in the BB with 99
Villain is in MP and raises to $12. He has around $160 at this point. This is the first I have seen him raise.
Cutoff calls, button calls, and small blind calls.
It gets to me and I call.
Pot $60
Flop 5510
SB checks, I check
Villain bets $15.
Cutoff, button, and small blind fold.
It's $15 into $60 and the price is too good to fold. I call the $15. Does he even have anything? Are 9s good?
Pot $90
Turn 9 Favorable!
Villain bets $20 [!?!]
I thought he may have had JJ to AA originally, now I think he has AK or AQ and is throwing smoke.
I reraise to $60.
He thinks and thinks but makes the call. Seriously, 90 seconds go by before he calls.
Pot $210
River is A
I hope that he got there...after he checks I push all in for $88.
Due to his hemming and hawing about the turn call was this "all in" poor tactics?
Should I have made it like $30 or $40 to look less threatening?

...just ship turn, he calls with JJ+, he's not calling a turn raise with KJ or w/e regardless

Raise flop. How is 88$ on river threatining? Your offering him a little over 3-1. Betting 30-40$ is just leaving money on the table the times he's strong enough to call you.

Just picking this part out, because it's important. Your read may or may not have been a good one, but your following thought process doesn't make any sense. If you think now that he has AK or AQ, why would you try to raise him off the pot?

If you think an opponent is weak, you need to do what you can to encourage them to continue betting so you can collect more value. If you think your opponent has nothing, and you're very strong, then the last thing you want to do is make a bet that's going to cause them to fold.

I would just call turn in position then jam all rivers. Keep his bluffs alive and given SPR we get stacks in whether we raise turn or not

that's a good point, but i didn't have "a set" i had a boat and the large turn bet may have been unwarranted, but I really try to get it in on the last two streets when i can.

He wouldn't have bluffed the river this guy but he well could have called 20 or 30 had i tried it--which is a lot more than my hourly!
